Karen in the Wild

It’s mostly been all TV this weekend. However, I’m a multitasker by nature so, even when engrossed in the television, I was getting stuff done — like working on that needlepoint project I began 13 months ago.

As to how I manage to watch television while simultaneously following a pattern, placing the needle and correct color into the correct space on 14-point aida cloth, the answer is …. very carefully.

I mostly listen to the television. It’s background music but, when something I hear warrants attention, I pause the needle and focus on the screen.

Works for me, and I’ve rarely had to correct a mistake in my needle work.

Friday night’s Drag Race was so fascinating that I actually put the needle down.

After a disastrous Snatch Game last week, seven queens were forced to Lip Sync for their lives in a Lalaparuza Smackdown that had me on the edge of my seat.

Fortunately, my three favorites — Lady Camden, Willow Pill and Angeria lived to slay another day.

On Saturday, to make room for new recordings — specifically episodes of Breaking Bad, I viewed previous recordings of Food Network’s Spring Baking Championship.

I prefer recording shows, watching later so I can fast forward through commercials.

At any rate, I thought it was hubris and quite offensive when one of the bakers introduced herself by saying, “I am probably the youngest in this competition. That kinda gives me a little bit of an advantage. I’ve got a little more pep, a little more spunk”.

More pep, more spunk than others not of her generation, she meant. A mistake many Millenniums and Generation Z’s makes — think they know it all, discounting/disrespecting their elders.

Guess what — little miss more pep, more spunk was in tears by the end of the pre-heat, and was one of first two sent home on the main-heat.

Pretty much the same thing happened on the Spring Baking Easter Competition. The kid that sounded like he’s modeled himself after that fake heiress, Anna Sorokin Delvey — with her calling others “basic” made the statement, “Why be simple when you can be extra”.

He too went home first.

Seems the lesson is — Self-confidence is great, but temper it with humility; and, more importantly, don't dis your elders.

This morning, while walking from the kitchen, back to the needlepoint stand, I happened to glance out the window and caught a glimpse of that Karen out in the Wild.

I pulled up a chair to the bedroom window and began recording.

Did you see the suspicious way she looked around to see if anyone had seen her taking the cat?

Well, somebody did see — ME.

I’m thinking of contacting the SPCA, say I have a neighbor displaying psychotic behaviors, observed her chase down, capture and take a feral cat into her unit. That I’m concerned for the cat’s safety and would like a welfare check.

Shall I?

    1. I've called. Got transferred twice. Last number has no after hours, directs to call regular hours, starting at 7:30 am. I will. Hopefully the cat will still be alive by then.

  2. We have the same three faves on Drag Race, and I was glad to see Jasmine go; Daya could go next, and then Jorgeous who is all body and dance steps and not that entertaining.
I hate to sound old, but these whippersnappers think they know it all and, yeah, they don't.
I'd call the SPCA, and the manager of the complex.

    1. That's a good idea about the manager, sending her an email now, adding I will be asking the spca for a welfare check.

    2. P.S. I am so over Jorgeous and I know there has to be a villain ever season, but Daya is taking being mean to a new level.

  3. Well. Wild Karen certainly seemed fixated on getting that cat. Did she take it inside her apartment?

  4. Shirley, P.I.! That's totally bizarre. I'm surprised the cat let itself get caught. But if the olives tricked it, that's mean.
Are cats / pets or how many are permitted in the units?
Being nicer than we should be, if it was her pet cat, she was trying to get it back in. Lots of people still let their cats outside and the cat comes back when it wants to, because they're cats.
Unfortunately, it might be a cat who belongs to someone in the complex. If it's a feral cat, it certainly didn't behave like one. If it was recently abandoned, that behavior matched a bit. Except it tried to avoid Karen, and most abandoned cats will go up to available humans hoping for food.
Contacting SPCA, or a local kitty rescue shelter may help. Telling the manager of Karen's stalking behavior may be more helpful. I'm presuming management knows who has which pets in which apartments. Hopefully Karen isn't hurting it. Maybe she'll advertise to "sell" it for some money. It's all very odd.
Watch your first video closely: you can see the cat's back to the right behind the bushes, then again when it's closer to Karen, but behind bushes. The white paws won't permit it to be hidden. Such bushes are why pretty entrances to buildings smell like cat poop: the feral cats like pretty potty places. Good luck! Linda in Kansas

    1. Cats here are indoor cats, not allowed outside; and though No. 8 set out traps and got rid of the feral ones, more have found their way onto the property because it's normally a safe space for them. Residents have no problem with the ferals and, in fact, feed them. So, I dunno why No. 8 trapped them. It's up to the Talker to take the stalker issue to management. If she's unwilling to defend herself, the heck with her. My only thing is that Karen doesn't harm an animal that can't defend itself.

  5. Actually SPCA may not sense a problem from their viewpoint: old lady took a cat inside. That's one less cat to rescue for them. My son is a shelter veterinarian. You are rightfully concerned: did you know shelters will not adopt out black cats before and around Halloween? Yep, there are too many weird people using, and killing them for satanic rituals. Pretty bizarre! Linda in Kansas

    1. See something, say something is the drum beat these days. If SPCA doesn't respond, at least I'll feel better to have at least tried.

    1. I'm torn between Willow and Lady Camden, but leaning towards Lady C.

  7. Yes, to calling on an Animal Welfare Check, Karen seems unraveled enough to harm something or at the very least, not be competent to properly care for a living thing.

  8. Yes. I don't like it one bit. No one would take a feral cat inside would they?
