That was my life this weekend — working on that never ending needlepoint project and viewing Netflix’s Prison Break.
The weather was walkable, and I really tried to motivate myself to get out, log in some cardio, failed, now feel guilty for having wasted the doable weather opportunity.
My reluctance to leave the unit has a lot to do with not wanting to be in the world where people reside, unless I of necessity have to — like workouts and grocery runs or want to engage in a fun event — like this afternoon’s Halloween event at Home Depot.
I’ve become such a recluse that, when heading out for a workout last week, I ran into Talker who said neighbors are beginning to ask what’s happened to me ……… do I even still live here. LOL.
Perhaps I should push myself, make an appearance at tomorrow’s Craft session in the Community Room, so folks will see I’m still alive.
I did have a visitor this past weekend — not my little Knock Knock who, thankfully, is back in school. It was Twin 1.
On her way to Vegas to feed the homeless, she stopped by to give me a hug.
That was a visit I can appreciate.
I saw on Facebook last night, that Randy Rainbow was teasing a new video coming out this morning.
The teaser showed the old Randy. So hoping he’d redeemed himself from that last video, I checked it out and, except for the shameless self-promotion of his news channel, I’d say he has risen, is redeemed.
My new favorite saying “Slay the house down boots mama”.
I had to post the above. It was too hilarious not to share.
A few days ago, Randy Rainbow issued a new parody — "The Lawyer or the Conman".
Loyal fan of Randy that I am, I have to say this latest parody is disappointing, I don’t like it. (Sorry Randy) but I couldn’t even bring myself to view to the end.
In all fairness, I don’t know if it’s me — because lately I’m finding a lot of things I formerly enjoyed I no longer enjoy or if the problem is with what Randy put out this time. So, if you wish to assess the video, decide for yourself, it can be found on YouTube, as I so dislike it that I don’t want to support it by posting here.
I ran across a funny conversation amongst friends on FB last night.
One of my friends (a former coworker) had evidently been watching the Olympics Closing, saw Tom Cruise fly off a tower and, being a fan posted a shoutout.
A meanspirited friend of my friend tried to ruin her fun by posting "Your chances of getting close to Tom Cruise are about as real as a car free LA in the next Olympics", to which my friend replied "Wanna bet" and went on to say she’d once seen Tom C when he visited our building on business.
Of course, naysayer didn’t believe her, whereupon another friend of my friend defended her with "I think if anybody has a chance of getting close to TC it's you. You're the best stalker I know".
That’s when I remembered that when I worked in the same office/different departments as my friend, her job had been in Media Relations. In fact, it was through her, I’d met TV personality Huell Howser, of the PBS Series California Gold, in person.
I was a fan, and Howser was just as warm and personable in person, as he appeared to be.
So, anyway, I remembered that, upon learning, through her contacts, that Tom C was in our building on business — nothing to do with our offices, my coworker friend had indeed stalked his movements through the building, managed to capture a photo of him on the steps as he was leaving, sent that photo to our squad of coworker friends.
I’ve never been a fan of Tom C, but once a secretary, always a secretary — meaning, I’m very organized, and was sure I’d posted that pic back when I was blogging under the name BlackandBlue.
Though the bulk of those posts were lost in a snafu, I was certain some of the assets (photos) had been saved to flash drives where I’d managed to capture bits and pieces of the before blog before all was lost and I re-restarted under BootsandBraids.
I checked and, sure enough, quickly found the photo.
1998
Friend was gleeful when I posted the photo to the thread, to dissuade naysayer of the notion Friend's chances of getting close to Tom C "are about as real as a car free LA in the next Olympics" as she'd already done so.
Naysayer capitulated with "What's he doing walking up the stairs like a normal human being??"
Whichever of us is happiest, I'm pretty damn happy the jurors had the good sense and guts to find him guilty, but I'm still scared.
Consequently, I’m holding off on uncorking my bottle of champagne, or taking down my voodoo altar, or stop wearing my Lock Him Up tee until he’s actually in jail, or off the ticket, or not reelected, or recalled by the Infinite Invisible so I can feel safe.
I can’t wait to see what Randy Rainbow does with this guilty verdict.
In other news, John over at Going Gently, a few days ago posted about "looking like a twat" while visiting the Museo National Centro de Arte Sofia after ripping his pant leg on the corner of a door when entering.
I’d responded that inasmuch as people here in California pay good money for ripped pants ……… knees, hips, etc., that his rip was more than likely viewed as a fashion statement.
John then queried, "How about a fat ankle?"
Oh for sure, and these hideous Huckleberry Finn looking jeans that popped up on my feed are a prime example.
I don’t wear jeans, I’m a leggings woman. However, if one is so inclined, they can own these unflattering to the female figure jeans for $65.90.
Watching the Next Baking Master Paris on Food Network, I did see a pair of ripped jeans that I would wear ……… that is if I were to ever wear jeans again.
So cute, and probably cost a small fortune.
Speaking of Next Baking Master Paris, are you watching?
If so, did you make the same connection I made when one of the bakers became ill and had to bow out of a challenge?
That connection being that, while at the shop of the Baking Bastards, learning how to make those very rich buttery and chocolate ganache filled Croffins, she shoved two into her mouth and practically swallowed them whole.
Other than this, today looks to be the first free day I’ve had all week — no errands to run, no commitments. I can stay indoors, work on crafts, catch up on recorded TV programs.
Assistant Maintenance Guy kept his word and installed a new faucet this afternoon.
No more drip drip drip of the kitchen sink leaking.
I’d just returned from running errands all over town — gassing up the jeep, car wash, medical center for BP check (118/57), two stores in the mall to pick up anolon cookware to replace my beat-up pot and skillet, See’s Candy Store for a treat, craft store for fabric, Whew!!! ….. when there was his knock on the door.
"Parts came in yesterday but, if you’re busy, I can come back tomorrow".
"Nope. Let’s get er done", said I.
Real Plumber that he is — or as near to as they have on staff, it took a bit of time, but he did a good thorough job. A job Head Maintenance Guy would never have achieved because it would have been too much work for him.
Had I not requested a "real plumber", HMG would have returned over and over and over, tightened a nut here, a bolt there, and the leak would have continued forever.
After the job was done, as he packed up to go, he apologized for it taking so long.
"Not a problem" said I, "But I bet the complex water bill is going to go way down, because the leak had been going on for so long".
He laughed and said, "It won't make a difference. We've got worse problems going on".
Don't I know it since, in talking recently with the two residents previously mentioned with maintenance issues, I'd learned they're getting nowhere.
Upstairs Lady — the resident with the bad legs, said her two-months ago workorder about the handle falling off her oven door has still not been addressed.
She tried gluing the handle back on, it held for a bit, but it's once again handle less.
Di — the resident that had that problem with Meat Man’s son, reported moldy crud in her refrigerator even more months ago.
She says both Head Maintenance Guy AND Assistant Maintenance Guy checked it out, told her to disinfect the refrigerator with bleach.
She did so, but mold quickly reappeared on the inside walls, whereupon the guys told her to "not place food near the wall".
Seriously.
They told her to push refrigerated foods away from the walls, towards the middle of the shelf.
After she told me that, I remembered she had brought food to bingo back in March — chili and corn muffins.
Since no one reported a trip to the hospital shortly after, I guess the residents who ate freely of that are immune to mold.
In a sane world, a stove for Upstairs Lady and a refrigerator for Di would have taken precedence over repainting the patio railings and repaving the bottom of the jacuzzi, but management only cares about curb appeal, not what corporate and other outsiders can't see.
If I were Di, I’d buy my own refrigerator and tell management to cart that death machine away.
While at See’s, for chocolate to make more S’mores, I saw they’ve added color to their display.
This new limited-time treat is called "Birthday Cake", and is in honor of the founder Mary See’s birthday — and no, she’s not here to enjoy the honor as she passed away in 1939.
They do look like cute little birthday cakes.
My sensitive gut will only let me get away with Almond Buds and Milk Walnuts, so I can’t tell you what they taste like, but they must be amazing because I saw online where one woman said she "cried" when her store ran out and she couldn’t find anywhere else.
Last news of the day is, returning from running errands, retrieving packages from the jeep, a car pulled up behind mine.
It was Meat Man, who proceeded to blow kisses at me.
He is such a bad boy AND so funny that I couldn’t help but to burst out laughing. "You are just full of it" said I, through laughter. He smiled and proceeded to drive out of the complex.
Now that the Tyrant (No. 8 manager) is long gone, and there is no longer anyone in management to claim our old Resident's Activity Facebook site as their own (something else he tried to steal from us, claim as his and say Apache wasn't allowed to post to) and since we have a group of women (Red Light, the Talker, Jan, the Baker) trying to kickstart activities, taking a lot of photos, I allowed myself to be talked into restarting our old site.
Sorting through photos the women had taken at the last three bingo sessions took up most of yesterday, but I got 'er done.
One of the photos given me for posting was one taken at Friday's bingo, where I'd worn a favorite shirt of mine.
The lettering that indicates I've got "All original parts" isn't exactly true, as I don't still have my appendix, but the ladies loved the shirt, had fun with my being out and proud about my age, inasmuch as there are women here who would rather die than disclose their age.
They also made a point to bring attention to the fact that the way the letters "spread" made it easy to read, unlike some whose shirts just hang, causing the letters to fall together and be unreadable. LOL.
What with crafting, various social medias, working out, television and now the resident's photo page, I don't have a lot of time for reading.
When Walter Mosley has a new book out, I’ll make time but, ordinarily, the only time I have to read is during downtime — while waiting for the dentist, the dermatologist, the car to be serviced, etc. Thus, because I've not had all that much downtime, I’ve not made much progress on that hilarious read I began back in August of last year Everyone in this Room Will Someday be Dead.
Even though I’ve still around 30 pages to go in finishing that book, and no downtime in sight, when I saw Randy Rainbow had an autobiography out, I put in an order.
Received my copy on Friday.
Inasmuch as I’d paid extra for an autographed copy, I immediately opened to see what Randy had written.
I expected more.
Is that even Randy’s autograph or did some little assistant scribble it for him?
When Twin 2 attended a reading by Walter Mosley, mentioned it was me, her mom, who’d gotten her hooked on his books, Mosley signed a copy of the book he was promoting — a book she’d purchased for me.
Not my favorite Mosley book, but the autograph mentioning me by name makes it a treasured keepsake.
Also a treasure, as mentioned in a previous post, is the book autographed by the Official Witch of Los Angeles when I caught up with her back in 1969 on a book tour.
I haven’t a clue what the symbols mean, would like to know but whatever the symbols are saying has brought me good luck because the book is now considered rare and worth a nice chunk of change ... used. I imagine a used copy, with the author's signature, would bring in an even nicer chunk of change, though I've no plans to ever sell.
I guess the trick in getting more than a perfunctory autograph is to have the book signed in person. So, I’ll have to hope for a Randy Rainbow book tour close enough for me to get to, so I can get a proper autograph.
For those of you who may not have heard of Randy Rainbow (which I’ll find hard to believe), he’s an entertainer popular for his humorous parodies of No. 45 and other GQP politicians.
