Never in My Life

Finishing up the backlog of photos going into my personal Creative Memories scrapbook this morning, I heard myself say to myself "Never in my life did I ever think I’d be adding photos like this to the Memory book".

It was hella hard finishing up that layout, and then the Legacy LA Pride photos, but I got through it.

I’ve said it before; I’ll say it again … The circle of life is incredibly cruel.

No news yet as to whether the Feces Felon has struck again, but I did hear we’ve a new resident on the complex that’s wearing an ankle bracelet.

When I say ankle bracelet, I’m not talking about this …

I’m talking about this …

Not wanting to automatically judge the new resident as being a danger to society, assume that management is leasing to criminals, I went to ChatGPT and asked, "What kind of people require police ankle bracelets?" and got "Police and courts use electronic ankle bracelets to track individuals awaiting trial, serving probation or parole, or placed under house arrest. They are assigned based on risk level, specific offenses like domestic violence or repeat DUI, and as an alternative to jail time."

"Awaiting trial!!!!!! … on Parole!!!!!!! … Risk Level!!!!!"

WTF!!!

Is management running a Halfway House?

I'm now on the lookout for who this new neighbor might be and, actually, a few days ago — before I heard about an ankle bracelet resident, passed a woman I didn't recognize on the walkway. I looked in the eyes, smiled, said "good morning" but now, in retrospect, I'm thinking she looked hard, like someone who could be wearing an ankle bracelet.

At any rate, I'll now be passing, smiling, greeting, looking at ankles, rather than eyes, saying "good morning".

Wazzup?

Still not much going on, except this month’s bingo games have been cancelled, MAGA and Talker had another dust up, the Baker and Di also had a dust up. It went 2.0 …… got physical.

Snug as a bug in a rug under the A/C, working on scrapbooking, cleaning the spice rack of expired spices, reorganizing the kitchen cabinet, I’ve been getting news of the dustups second hand from the parties involved.

Talker tells me MAGA is still following her around, trying to engage/get close and, as usual, has been involving herself in things that are none of her business and aggravating others. Like when she wormed her way into one resident’s life, the resident let her guard down and expressed being depressed.

MAGA feigned worry about the woman’s mental health, called the police, who arrived to check on the woman.

She didn't appreciate it. Expressed to others that she felt betrayed/embarrassed. Withdrew even further because of it.

Then, when Patricia/one of our Usual Suspects passed away, MAGA got involved, feigned being closer to Patricia than Patricia would have allowed, inserted herself into the family’s business.

Another of our Usual Suspects/Louise was out-of-state visiting her daughter, fell, broke a hip and is now recuperating in an out-of-state rehab, staying in contact with Talker and the Baker.

MAGA is losing her mind running around trying to insert herself in Louise’s business, trying to get Louise’s telephone number.

Louise doesn’t like MAGA, would not appreciate a telephone call, we all know this. So, MAGA somehow found out Talker is the point-of-contact, asked Talker for Louise’s location and telephone number. When Talker said she couldn’t give Louise’s personal information to her, MAGA began badgering her for it. When Talker pushed back, MAGA accused Talker of being aggressive and words were exchanged.

Talker needs a restraining order but instead reported the following around, harassing to the office.

Not that anything will be done by management, but so there will be a record on file.

So now, word on the grapevine is to let our families know that if and when we pass away, be on guard for MAGA to try to get involved with our families.

I myself am drafting a text message to granddaughter and Twin 2 to not be fooled by, stay away from, do not be polite to, give no information to MAGA when my time comes.

Speaking of which, I’d previously mentioned Twin 2 gifted me with a cremation package. Since then, I’ve been thinking about wanting my ashes in a cowboy boot cremation urn.

Found it.

At $253.50, I haven’t ordered yet, but I will.

So, anyway, the Baker tells me her dustup with Di occurred when the organizers had gathered in the Community Room to plan bingo, learned the office will be closing early on the days planned for bingo, causing the Community Room to be locked up, decided to cancel August bingo.

At one point, the Baker was on the phone checking something to do with the results of doctor ordered lab work, the results being too high. Di walked into the room, began telling the girls about the woman she testified against being released from prison.

The girls keep doing what they were doing, the Baker on her phone, the others doing whatever, no one engaged.

Di became furious, yelled, "No one f__king cares about what’s happening to me"!

Now let me just say here that, if you haven’t already figured it out from previous postings about her, the Baker is the sweetest, kindest, most generous/patient human being ever …… darn near a Saint.

Di isn’t a bad person, she’s just a basic human …… complicated.

Baker said that when Di yelled no one f__king cares about what’s happening to me, "I lost it. Told Di that no one is paying attention because we’ve all heard a version of it over and over and over"; and, with one of her hands, she grabbed Di by the arm, grabbed her walker (a replacement walker???) with the other hand, escorted Di and the Walker to and outside the door.

"Well, damn", laughed I. "You got physical. Ushered her out the room".

Asking the Baker if she’s seen Di since, she said "She actually returned a few minutes later. Apologized for the outburst".

No one paid attention, no one engaged.

Size Does Matter and the $50 Mistake

Color me disappointed that 25 inches wasn’t larger than it was pictured to be.

The metal Audrey Venus Flytrap Sculpture that I ordered middle of June, for the skeleton planter, arrived yesterday.

Why so long for Audrey to arrive, you ask.

Though there were many vendors of exactly the same Audrey that I could have ordered from, received in days, I happened to unwittingly choose the vendor shipping from China …… customs and all that.

No matter as Venus did finally arrive, but I have to say I’m disappointed.

Though all metal Audreys indicate "25 inches high", the images depict a plant so tall and stately, with ferocious looking bulbs, that my eyes were tricked into thinking 25 inches was just that …… tall, stately, giant of a plant.

Alas, unpackaging Audrey, seeing how small she looked, how not ferocious her bulbs looked, I thought there’d been a mistake …… I measured her.

No mistake. Twenty-five inches she was.

What I thought I was getting

What I got

I’ve always heard that the camera adds 10 pounds. Seems the sellers’ cameras also adds 10 feet.

One needs a microscope to see her, but she’s a cute little thing, so I’ll live with the disappointment.

Also in yesterday's mail was confirmation that the medical device Twin 1 had gifted me, when I ended up in the ER last year, was "deactivated/account cancelled" and good riddance to it because I didn’t like how the company ran its business …… the result of a $50 fee I viewed as a mistake …… no way to run an overpriced business.

When Twin 1 first contracted with the company, I thought it not only excessive, but the device severely overpriced at, if I recall correctly $159 per month, when I could call 911 for free. However, if my wearing the pendant made Twin 1 worry less …… you know, I went along with the program.

Who knew I wasn’t the one to be worried about 💔 😭 …… Twin 1 is gone, I’m still here.

When it took no time for the pendant to break, I began to think not only overpriced, but also cheaply made.

Worse still was, when I called Customer Service for a replacement pendant only to be told it would cost Twin 1 an additional $50.

Outrageous, thought I …… an additional $50 when the pendant was cheaply made, so easy to break and the system was overpriced to begin with. I requested a cancellation of the whole thing.

"It's a 3-year contract, no cancellation", said Customer Service. So, I accepted I was locked in for 3-years and, if still breathing at the end of the term, I’d tell Twin 1 to not renew.

When Twin 1 passed away, Twin 2 called to say she was taking over the contract.

Expressing my dissatisfaction with the company’s business practices, I asked Twin 2 not to, that her sister was the only signatory on the contract, she’s no longer here, I’d like to see just how that company could make me, or anyone else, continue to pay, which meant the company was essentially SOL, would have no choice but to cancel.

Sure enough, when Twin 2 declined taking over the contract, Customer Service asked "Is there anyone else that would sign?" and when she said "no", they made arrangements for the device to be picked up by Fed Ex, sent me that confirmation of deactivation/account cancelled.

Now the thing is …… had they not been so greedy, replaced the pendant at no cost, I would not have wanted to cancel the contract in the first place, would not have been opposed to Twin 2 taking over.

So, all in all, because of a greedy business practice, that company lost $5,724 dollars ($159 per month for 36 months) over $50.

So now, instead of continuing with that medical device, Twin 2 has gifted me with something much more practical …… a cremation package, LOL; saying, "The plan is to keep your energy, because you have really good energy and, when I'm ready to let you go I'll plant you under a tree, watch the tree grow into something beautiful" 💗🤗.

Stuck in Neutral

Several things are going on, related to the painting job being done on the complex; one of which necessitates I get out of dodge for an extended period of time, because I’ll have no place to park the jeep for however many days.

Back in ’23, there was the great paving project that uprooted my parking spot for an entire week. To avoid the chaos/trauma others were experiencing in finding places to park, I booked the jeep into a car park that would only allow parking by the month @ $360.50.

Though fairly nearby, the trek back/forth wasn’t fun because the area was sketchy, inside the facility didn’t feel safe for a woman alone to be wandering around in, but I managed.

Though convenient, I really don’t want to car park again. I thought instead I’d visit Twin 2 in Murietta. However, Twin 2 tells me she not only had not gotten the guest room set up (no mattress), she hasn’t even unpacked from the move.

So that visit not working out, not wanting to book the car park, not wanting to face that harrowing drive back to the Long Beach area, book a hotel to visit the great grands for a week, I decided on a Residence Inn a few cities over, that I know to be attached to a shopping center, which will make it easier to care for my weak stomach as there’s a kitchen, cooking appliances, a refrigerator — it’s like home away from home, but with a gym and safe areas to walk.

I just returned from that road trip to Hollywood, will soon have to hit the road yet again, but I’m stuck in neutral — my now vintage Diane Von Furstenberg suitcase, that I purchased back in the 70’s when it was affordable, still out of storage ready to repack, but I can’t book the hotel until the signs go up detailing what days are involved in no parking.

I know it’s soon because notices were posted to our doors just yesterday, indicating painters were ahead of schedule, would start today on my building. In fact, the building is being power washed as we speak. However, insofar as parking, no such notices have been forthcoming.

From what I’ve seen in other areas, no parking signs just mysteriously appear; but logic tells me that if they’re starting on my building today, the parking area will be next and soon. However, without proper notification, I’m stuck in neutral … constantly having to check morning and night to see if the no parking signs have been posted, so I can make hotel reservations.

Of course this stay is going to cost more than $360, so any thoughts of helping Di out with her situation are off the table, as I’ll need to apply those $$$ to my stayaway.

I haven’t seen any of the Usual Suspects since I returned from Hollywood, probably won’t see anyone until next week, so news on Di and whether Kesha has been able to assist is not yet known by me.

Speaking of Hollywood … this was the photo I took of two dolls' star the day before Pride.

This is the photo, I saw posted to the internet, the very next day .... after the Pride Parade.

LA Pride, Part 2

How it started.

Our Driver Sheri from Auto Museum

Great Granddaughter, Granddaughter, Moi

Reps from Thrive Cosmetics

How it ended.

Our Other Driver

Driving slow, plus the heat of the sun, caused the celebrity car to overheat/breakdown about a half mile from the parade's end.

Inasmuch as it was the Legacy's car, our driver was incredibly embarrassed; but we said, no problem and were prepared to walk the rest of the way, until the Golf Cart came to the rescue for Granddaughter and I, while others stepped up to walk with the signage that had been on the car.

Other than that little snag, the parade, the various news interviews, people from cosmetic brands that had partnered with Twin 1's organization, various board members coming up to say wonderful things about Twin 1 was a lot, and all this was before we even got to the moment with Channel 7, by which time I was a bit of a mess … said I couldn’t speak, that Twin 1’s passing a month ago was still too raw.

For the record, Twin 1 actually passed away in January but, with all the hoopla causing it to be fresh in my mind, it was beginning to feel like it was yesterday.

So, anyway, the parade itself was the largest/longest-running parade I’ve ever seen, overwhelming actually.

So overwhelming that, even though I was given a VIP Pass to Pride Village, I passed, instead chose to be Golf Carted back to the area of the hotel, while the others soldiered on to the Pride Village event.

Being in the actual parade did not allow for an opportunity to capture much of the miles and miles and miles of what there was to see; but I did manage to capture Jesus.

And this lively group.

Upon arriving in Hollywood, I made a point of seeking out the asshole's star.

Surprisingly, this ancient, radiation-feeding megafauna also has his own star; but I bet nobody even thought of damaging, tearing up or spitting on his star.

L.A. Pride

Heading out on Saturday to represent Twin 1 at Sunday's Pride Parade.

Granddaughter and I will be driven in a car, while a contingent from Twin 1’s organization Beauty2theStreetz, and possibly some of the unhoused that Twin 1 clothed/fed/obtained housing for/supported in a myriad of other ways, will be walking alongside the parade route with us.

The Parade starts at 11:00, will be broadcast live on ABC 7, streamed on Hulu, with Twin 1’s moment arriving at approximately 11:30.

We’ve been instructed to wear purple, with fun and/or related rainbow themed accessories. So, if you're watching the broadcast, you just might catch a glimpse of our dressed in purple selves.

But then again, maybe not, because my TV Guide indicates the broadcast ends at 11:30, just as Twin 1's moment arrives, while ABC's promo indicates the live ends at 1:00.

I don't have access to Hulu, so your guess is as good as mine as to how long that broadcast is slated to run.

At any rate, enjoy what there is of LA Pride you're able to view in your areas.

Sentimental Journey

What a relief, I said to myself when I woke up this morning after a frustrating dream.

Of course, I didn’t know it was a dream when I was in it, spinning my wheels trying to get help, blaming myself for doing a dumb thing.

The way it started is I’d gone out for brunch with two friends. Two friends known very well to me in the dream it seems, but not people I know in my real life.

When we arrived at the restaurant’s parking lot, someone that was a friend of one of the friends I was with came out of the restaurant.

The two did a what’s up thing, were laughing, joking; and, at this point, the second person I was with seemed to have vanished from the dream …… it was then just my one friend, and his friend that had exited the restaurant, who seemed to work at the restaurant, had on a server type jacket.

The two talked about doing something that required them to get in a car, drive away.

Evidently, I myself had driven to the scene. We'd arrived at the restaurant in my white jeep, which required my friend to need to use my car.

I tossed the key fob to my friend’s friend, and the two left the parking lot.

I waited for their return, and I waited, and I waited, and I waited.

It seems I waited for hours before determining something wasn’t right.

Then I began kicking myself …… How could you be so stupid as to toss your keys to someone you don’t know? …… Why didn’t you think? …… Why would you allow someone else to drive your car? …… What about the insurance liability of letting someone else drive? yada yada yada.

I did not have my cellphone. Don’t know if I’d left in the car or what, so I went inside, asked the person at the front desk to call the police for me.

He didn’t take me seriously. Scoffed at me. Brushed me away. I didn’t like his attitude, but what could I do.

Back out on the sidewalk outside the restaurant, I approached a couple I saw that had a cellphone out, asked if I could use it.

They graciously allowed me to call the police.

Back inside the restaurant with the police, I suggested I’d been scammed, that the person at the front desk seemed to be involved, and there must be surveillance to identify the two people on the parking lot, which were my friend and my friend’s friend; that possibly the police could track the car from info gathered from the cameras. The thought of lojack came to mind …… did I have it installed?

It was at this point that I woke up.

My first sensation was relief. Thank God that was a dream, thought I as I began my morning ritual.

Details of the dream stuck with me, which is unusual because I generally forget a dream as soon as I awaken. However, as I preprepared to seize the day, the frustration I'd felt in the dream remained front and center in my thoughts … the tossing of keys to that guy.

Since the dream would not let go, I began dissecting it, asking myself "What does it mean?".

"Warning Dream", myself replied and, when I heard that, I knew exactly what the warning was about.

Just the night before, I’d booked myself into a hotel I’d never been to before (6/13- 6/15).

Looking into hotel parking, I’d learned parking at the actual hotel is Valet only at $60 a day. The other option is parking offsite … a garage across the street from the hotel.

Thinking the garage parking might not be all that safe insofar as theft of property pilfered from the trunk or glove compartment, I was planning to foot the bill for Valet Parking. That is, I was willing to pay the charges until I had that warning dream about tossing keys to a guy I did not know.

Due to the hassle of my food issues, trips are no longer in my wheelhouse and, having recently seen how a person can go to bed at night and not wake up the next morning, I no longer assume, no longer plan ahead. However, this trip is something I have to plan for and muster through because it involves LA Pride. I feel compelled to do it for my baby girl.

It’s a great way to honor the memory of Twin 1, acknowledge the work she did in contributing to the care and feeding of the homeless members of the LGBTQ+ community; and the organizers want to provide a parade car or float, with family involvement.

Emotional as I get, when Twin 1’s name comes up, I think the joyous atmosphere will make it so I can do this for her without crying myself the whole route down Hollywood Boulevard.

At any rate, I'll be bypassing Valet Parking, opting instead to take my chances with the garage across the street.

Roller Coaster

This last weekend was a roller coaster, having nothing to do with the two earthquakes we’d had Friday evening (3.4 centered 14 miles away in Redlands at 8:40 PM, and 3.4 centered three miles away in Muscoy at 11:32 PM).

The roller coaster had to do with my emotions, as this was my first Mother’s Day without Twin 1.

Twin 2, knowing the day would be difficult for me, sent not the usual text message, which I always appreciated and is how we roll, but instead had a box containing two dozen pink roses delivered to my door.

The struggle, in the hours leading up to yesterday were real, and I was afraid to step outside the unit to take the trash out, drive to the market, for fear neighbors or strangers would wish me Happy Mother’s Day, resulting in a public meltdown.

A meltdown happened anyway when the Talker sent me a Happy Mother’s Day text message.

Tone Deaf … Meaning well, but not thinking, thought I.

I started to just delete the text without responding, but instead replied with three crying emojis.

I'd like to think I did not mean to do that maliciously, to make her feel as bad about being tone deaf as I was feeling by what I was experiencing; but maybe I did intend to make her feel bad for being so stupid.

She took it well. Replied with uplifting words that left our friendship still in tack, but she’ll hopefully think twice in the future.

Make no mistake, I know I’m blessed to still have Twin 2, but I don't imagine Mother's Day will ever be completely happy again.

Later in the day, feeling I was all emotioned-out, I ventured outside to toss the trash, run by the market, where I received three/four more Happy Mother's Day greetings.

Strong Black woman that I am, I held it together until I made it back to the car before the damn broke.

Glad to have that day in my rear view, today looks to be another perfect walking weather opportunity, but I'm not ready to run into well-meaning neighbors, who haven't a clue as to the ins/out of my life, asking me, "How was your Mother's Day".

I'll do my walking on the indoor treadmill until the world moves on to something else.

New Player on the Field

"My looks are deceiving" said I to the new old guy on the complex, that I've decided to name Talker No. 2.

Last few weeks, on a daily basis when the weather's pleasant, I’ve spied an old guy that I’ve never seen before resting on the bench outside my bedroom window.

A new resident, I'd assumed.

Turns out he’s not new at all, has lived here for an entire year …… came to us from an apartment building down the street that he says the County took over and where the entire management staff "all look like serial killers".

He was sitting on the bench when I headed out for a short walk on Wednesday.

At the edge of the walkway, near that bench, I paused to give way to two residents on walkers, and joked "Are you two in a race …… Who’s winning?".

"He is", one of them said.

My being so close to the old guy on the bench, I included him by joking, "Are you not joining in the race?".

"I have a walker, but if I start using it, I’ll become dependent and have to always use it", which is a very true statement.

Now that the two on walkers had passed, before getting started on my circuit around the complex, I asked if he was new here; whereupon he launched into a conversation where he told me everything about himself, his son, his son’s wife.

He was talking so much, giving me so much rapid fire information that I couldn’t take it all in, remember details; but the cliff notes are he himself was a medical researcher. Not in the sense of being a doctor, something to do with researching the effect of certain foods on the body.

He told me to eat organic, LOL, but I mostly do.

His grandma was a full blood Cherokee, which he says people find hard to believe because he has blue eyes, and grandma would go out into the forest, find plants, make poultices and drinks which the kids hated, but fixed what was wrong over night.

His 6 foot 4 inches 250 pounds son used to play pro football, injured his ankle, became a Deputy Sheriff, recently retired from that gig and is now Manager of a trucking company. Old guy seemed pretty proud of the work his son’s wife was doing but, like I said, I couldn’t take it all in. By the time he got to the wife’s details, my brain was in overload …… could not retain any further data.

As for how Talker No. 2 has lived here for an entire year, and I’ve only recently seen him, he said that when he was living down the street, he was in pretty good health, walking 2 miles a day, suddenly began to weaken, ended up hospitalized after which black mold was discovered in his apartment — he’d been breathing in poisonous spores.

When released from the hospital, his son said no way would he let him return to that apartment building, got him a unit here, where he has been recovering.

After a year of recovering, he is just now able to get around, but can only manage around 400 steps a day.

Out of the blue, stroking the gray in his beard he asked me, "How old do you think I am?".

I really don’t know what he thought to accomplish by asking me that question.

Did he think he looked recovered/fit/youngish and wanted me to guess an age that would mirror that?

I sensed around 80 years of age, but was really reluctant to voice that, reluctant to answer the question period, because I hate when people put me on the spot with that question. I’m not a good guesser of age and have been known to unintentionally burst someone’s bubble, trash their ego, damage their sense of self.

Like the woman at the gym in San Diego many years ago, on the machine next to mine, who seemed pretty pleased with herself, had been bragging to someone on the other side about something she’d done, and suddenly turned my direction, asked "How old do you think I am".

I gave her a good look over, saw she had a banging body — well maintained, fit, youthful looking, but here’s the thing.

While living and working in San Diego, I’d noticed there was something about the weather that caused the skin on the face of its residents to look dried, aged, weathered, like 30 miles of dirt road.

I had in fact fought that happening to my skin by using baby products — oils, lotions, baby bubble wash.

So, though the woman had a fit/young looking physical body form, her face gave her age away — worn, weathered, deep spider veins around her eyes.

So, I generously/kindly (I thought) guessed "50".

The light in her aura went out, she looked stunned, like I’d slapped her and said, "50? …… I’m only 39".

I am just not the one to be asked, "How old do you think I am".

Skirting around answering Talker No. 2’s question, I replied, "I’m probably older than you".

"Oh, I highly doubt that", said he.

"My looks are deceiving …… I’m 82".

"I’m 82 as well", said he.

Turns out not only were we both born the same year, but also the same month, with me 8 days before him.

So, I was correct in responding, "I’m probably older than you", but same year, same month ?????? …… what are the odds of that. Plus, his grandma was Cherokee, while my Great Great Grandmother was full blood Oklahoma Choctaw Cherokee.

We might be related.

While typing this post, I looked over and saw something strange peeking out from the edge of the carpet near the blinds.

ROFLMAO, it was another misplaced item left by the great grands.

Since Sunday, I've laughed myself silly running across misplaced objects — one day an inspirational rock I'd picked up at a meditation retreat ages ago, alongside a glass bead from a jar their little hands had managed to extract from behind other objects back of a shelf. Another day it was a rather large red rock — a piece of the Sedona Vortex a coworker brought back for me when she visited the Vortex.

She'd asked if I'd like a souvenir from her trip to Arizona. I'd asked for a simple rock to add to my collection, and she walked in with a huge portion of the actual Vortex; which btw, is illegal. Considered theft from a federally protected site.

Yet another day, I discovered another glass bead. It had made its way to the bathroom counter; and today it was a Wooden Easter Egg I'd painted years ago in a craft session.

After these many days, I can't imagine I'll run into any further surprises, but you never know.

GG’s House

It seems the rain sticks worked after all because, after perfect weather all week, the great grands coming down on Sunday to take advantage of that perfect weather — swim in the pool, I woke up that morning to rain.

Funny thing is, I immediately googled weather to find out if rain had been predicted, and found no mention, even though I was watching it happen.

Omen, thought I. For some reason, I was not to get into the pool.

Texting granddaughter, expected to arrive 10 AM, that it was raining, the great grands swimming no longer possible, she wasn’t bothered. Said rain wouldn’t stop the toddlers, that "They love water".

It didn’t bother them not one bit and, fortunately, by the time granddaughter, the great granddaughter I never knew I had, and the toddlers arrived, the toddlers having done what I expected them to do with rearranging things in the unit, rain had slowed to drizzles, outside began drying up.

As for rearranging items, it took no time at all for curious little humans to get to those feng shui numbers, a teacup that had been on that shelf to end up on the front room’s table, along with rocks from my collection and a stuffed pony I kept in the back of the bedroom closet.

Rocks turned up in the bedroom, on and around the footpad of the cross trainer, along with other items previously positioned on a shelf, plus a pokémon ball I’d forgotten I had. They even dug up a boulder from underneath the shelf.

All in all, nowhere near what could have been done by a 3- and 4-year-old before we headed for the pool in drizzling weather, which was slowly replaced by the sun coming up and a return to that perfect weather.

The Great Grands

A few days to recover from chasing the toddlers around the pool, grabbing landscaping rocks from their hands they meant to toss into the pool, get me evicted, and I'll be fine.
