Waking up this morning, laboring under the assumption today was Saturday, I saw Robin and George were hosting Good Morning America. There was a moment when I thought Odd, they don’t usually host weekends, but then went on with my morning ritual.
Since it was Saturday, and the weather looked good for walking, I suited up and headed to the college campus to put in a few miles.
Seeing what looked to be students walking towards the campus, and more cars than usual on the road headed that way, Must be something special going on, ran through my head. Should be a good day for taking photos of whatever it is.
Coming up on the entrance, seeing the parking lot full of cars, it suddenly dawned on me — today is not Saturday ... it's only Tuesday ... classes are in session.
Oh well, I’m here, said I to myself. So, I pulled into where I usually park on Saturdays, checked around to see if anyone looked like they were putting tickets on cars that did not have a parking sticker.
Not seeing parking enforcement, I figured I could do a quick mile and a half, be back before parking enforcement got around to my car — if parking enforcement still existed, which it did before the pandemic.
Walking a loop that logged in at 1:39 miles, 3,583 steps (way short of 10,000, Mike), I arrived back at the car — no ticket.
This thinking today was Saturday turned out to be a fortuitous error. Now that I know I can walk the campus during the week, when class is in session, lots of people around, no safety worries, I’ll be doing weekday walks more often, while this good weather holds up — Tuesdays and Thursdays at least, relax at home on Saturdays.
Maybe some angel entity wanted you to discover the campus during the week and "told" you it was Saturday.
ReplyDeleteThere are no mistakes in the universe, a reason for everything, so maybe that's it :-)
DeleteI'm cracking up that it took you a while to realize what day it is. Your rationale for off-schedule events is a hoot! Maybe it's better to watch those youngsters than the older ones at your apartment. I've woken up and wondered if it was morning or dusk. From working nights for many years, I got one of those wall clocks where a third hand points to what day of the week it is. It's reoriented me many times. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteI certainly had enough signs that today was not Saturday. Ignored 'em all. And yes, it might be good to surround myself with youngsters, soak up that energy.
DeleteI feel like, in situations like this, a parking ticket is kind of a fair use fee.
ReplyDeleteWorks for me :-)
DeleteI am so glad you made that assumption about the day. Now you have discovered a great place to walk on weekdays as long as you can make it back to the car before the time limit runs out!
ReplyDeletePlus, the campus is more interesting during the week when classes are in session.
DeleteHeard on news yesterday that 7,000 steps now preferred amount vs 10,000.
ReplyDeleteStill too many to do on a daily basis.
DeleteGood to know you could get on the campus now without passing through an inspection. Fresno State had checkpoints, allowing only faculty, staff, and students on last year. This year you need a university ID card to access any of the buildings due to the vaccine mandate. Students have their ID cards validated when they show proof of vaccine. I think it's a great plan, but it does make it harder for those of us who just like to visit the campus. We may now be able to walk the grounds, though, so I'll have to check on that.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what the students are having to do to access buildings and classes but, except for requiring masks when on campus, everything seems back to normal. I saw other walkers ... not complying with the mask mandate, so who knows what's going on. At least there is no one checking for parking stickers now.
DeleteThat's a good idea for a place to walk.
ReplyDeleteBefore the pandemic, I used to walk the campus during the week. Of course, I had to find off campus parking, which was such a hassle that I switched to Saturdays, when parking on-campus was allowed. It's nice now to be able to park on campus during the week when there are sights to see.
DeleteThat's why we still get the Washington Post delivered in the morning. The paper is always right about what day it is.
ReplyDeleteLOL. I get my news from Yahoo and Good Morning America. What I need is for the microwave to tell me what day it is because, obviously, I didn't think to check the date on my tracker, my organizer, cell phone, or the TV guide.
DeleteHaving the students around is a good thing. I expect we will hear more about that location. Goodness knows what you'll see the kids doing or wearing.
