Verdict Watch

This is heartbreaking and even though, as some have commented, a man died, a family deserves justice and this was a "mistake" a police officer should not have made — all of which I agree with, I'd still give her a walk, hang the jury, even if the victim were a member of my own family.

What further pushed me into wanting a deadlocked jury, was the way the prosecuting attorney bullied her on the stand.

I can't abide a bully and will always go against the bully, whatever the circumstances.

Perhaps some kind of plea agreement can be reached, to satisfy those that want, at least, some punishment doled out.

So, after having gotten that off my chest, life goes on and even though yesterday was a Pain Cave day, today is not a rest day, because Friday is Christmas Eve. This means I’m going beastmode, back-to-back days, no time for my body to recover.

Next Friday is New Year’s Eve, so I’m looking at beastmode again next week.

I’ll survive, but you know how us old folks don’t care for change.

Speaking of change, Trainer has — for the umpteeth time, relocated the treadmill.

It’s back in the main room, intersecting the feng shui Family and Fame walls, in the Relationship corner, where I can once again look out, around, see everything inside and outside the studio.

He says he had planned to (stupidly) have the treadmill facing the wall, but his wife had my back and reminded him, "Shirley’s not going to like that. She’s got that feng shui thing going".

I won’t tell you what he said to his wife about Shirley and her feng shui thing, but he ended up positioning the treadmill correctly. ROFLMAO!

With the Hometown Elf heading back to the North Pole on Friday, I popped into the market yesterday for one last hunt.

Stepping inside the market door, scanning the area before I passed the entry way, I saw a little boy inside the market standing still, looking up at the ceiling.

Being nosey, I walked near to where he was standing, paused to see what he was looking at, threw my head back and, lo and behold, it was Ginger the Elf, high up, arms wrapped around what looks to be some kind of eye in the sky recording device.

Had the kid not given Ginger’s location away, I honestly don’t think I’d have found her, but I know to check the ceiling next year.

I also ran into my friend the Archeologist, who said she’d not yet spotted the elf.

Checking in with her later, she did have a successful hunt.

Checking in with the Baker yesterday, there’d been nothing on the grapevine as to who won the Patio Contest — and, if the Baker doesn’t know, no one knows.

Maybe, with so many choices, the Tyrant is deadlocked/hung on his decision.

UPDATE: Returning from the Pain Cave, stiff, sore, I see the verdict has come in — guilty of first- and second-degree manslaughter in the fatal shooting of Daunte Wright.

It is what it is.

  1. Yea, it's really sad what happened with the cop. Nurses have several stop-gap patterns to prevent or minimize medication errors. I think the cops have a pattern to use to prevent use of the wrong weapon. For sure, she, and maybe her entire department need retraining on gun location and use.
Saw yesterday on some news, that a company is promoting an "ungun." It looks like a Glock except for the orange tip, or entire gun being orange. It uses propellant cartridges to shoot a capsule full of pepper spray and tear gas from 60 feet away. Some police departments think it's great because it gives them another "non-lethal" choice to use. It's being marketed to consumers too, for "personal protection." A smart cop said it's a stupid idea to put another "look-alike" weapon out there, just waiting to be mistaken for a real gun by citizen or cop. Sigh.
Glad you garnered your correct view on the treadmill! Go easy working so hard.
That's worth a pic to see a little boy looking at the "found" elf.
I hope the patio contest isn't rigged, but maybe your's will win, along with the RLD.
Have a safe and Merry Christmas! Linda in Kansas

    1. I'm absolutely certain I did not win. As for rigged, wouldn't be surprised. I'm with the smart cop ... another look-alike weapon is a stupid idea. A Safe and Merry Christmas to you as well.

  2. I think he keeps moving the treadmill to keep you coming back to see where he moved it to.

    1. LOL. Kinda like finding your hometown elf. I'm going to tell him this, if he moves it again.

  3. I'm okay with the verdict. There were so many ways to handle that stop and she chose the wrong one, and then grabbed the wrong weapon.
She's no Derek Chauvin, but she deserves a punishment.

    1. I'm surprised at the verdict. I was sure they'd deadlock, but yes, she did deserve a punishment.

  4. I know it was a mistake, but for the love of God what an idiot. After what I heard the person in the car say on the stand I changed my opinion. And when everyone was worried about her being upset a kid was bleeding to death before they even thought to call for an ambulance. I am glad she will get prison time. I hope she is never allowed to own a fire arm ever again if she doesn't know the difference between a gun and a taser and not smart enough to look down before firing a gun. She won't get much time, she's white. Never enough for the fact that she took a young innocent life. There was a young man who couldn't stop his semi-truck on the high way (faulty breaks) truck ran amok on the road and killed someone. He got 2 consecutive 100 year sentences. He was not distracted, he was not drunk, he had no brakes. He was not white but brown so did he get a break for a real accident? Nope, he at 23 yrs old will die in prison for working hard at his job, and doing the right thing and it was a true accident. So this woman deserves a lot of prison time in my eyes.

    1. What did the person in the car say? I missed that. And you're right about the 100 year sentence for a brake failure. I'm so proud of the truckers standing up and boycotting Colorado.

  5. Either way, whether it was a mistake or meant I think she should have to face some form of punishment. A lesson has to be learned. In that line of work one must be "on" at all times. It was a rather sad story and event all the way around. But Im am happy with this outcome.

I shan't be online much today or tomorrow so I would like to wish you a Happy Yuletide!!! I hope you truly enjoy your holiday, you and the Elf!

  6. Boots, once he was shot the police woman was hysterical and they cared for and did not call police. Person in car tried to help him. No one even paid attention to the two of them left dead and one in shock in the car. They were comforting her. Her testimony went into detail and I think it sealed her fate

    1. It looked like all the cops forgot procedure and went into Blue Line mode. They comforted a hysterical fellow cop, forgot to render aid to the victim. Just a cornucopia of errors all around. The whole force probably needs to be retrained. I caught the girlfriend's testimony on TikTok last night.

  7. The whoops-it's-a-gun-not-a-taser is so frustrating for lack of a better term. I feel she deserves punishment although she is remorseful, and it seems like it was a whole series of bad procedures that ended up killing Daunte Wright.

    1. And NOW we have a 14 year old girl, shot/killed by a cop's stray bullet. Buckle up! Here we go again.

  8. I’m not following that story so much, but regardless of what she intended, she needs to be punished. I also agree with the commenter above that said “what an idiot.” Amen. Merry Christmas

    1. It's a done deal, she's convicted, and it didn't take long for another officer shooting to happen. It's a friggin epidemic. Merry Christmas to you as well :-)

  9. She was criminally negligent on too many things to be given a Pass. Even after mistaking Gun for a Taser, she didn't inform other Officers of what she'd just done and didn't try to administer aid to the Victim nor call for Medical help which may have given him a fighting chance to survive what she'd done to him. It was never a matter of Intent or how I Felt about her, if you're negligent on your Job and cause someone's Death it has consequences. Even had it been Vehicular Homicide there are consequences, most people who kill someone while behind the Wheel never Intended to cause a Death or Injury and most feel remorse, but the Dead are Dead forever, the seriously Disabled are Disabled forever... it changes those Lives of the Families of the Victims FOREVER.
