Comedy of Errors

The Tyrant had a notice posted to our doors on Friday that we’d be having Carolers on the property 5:45 PM Saturday.

At 5:45, it’s pitch black outside, not to mention so frigid cold that I’m bundled up in my fleece camo onesie pajamas, with the heat on but, in anticipation, I dressed in leggings, a Christmas tee and Christmas socks. I’d even purchased little chocolate Santa’s as treats for the Carolers.

If Carolers ever showed up, I didn’t hear or see them. Nor, did Red Light District, who accosted me yesterday asking, "Did you win the contest?"

"If anyone won, I’ve not heard about it yet", said I.

So, I guess her question means everyone is running around wondering who got a call from the Tyrant.

With the next activity calendar (for January), not expected until end of the month — which is to include unit number and photos of the winners, I guess we’ll find the answer as to who through the grapevine long before that.

As for the Carolers, it may be they were in the Community Room — which was not how the notice made it appear AND, if they were in the Community Room, waiting for us residents to appear, hear their performance, then they were just as disappointed as we were.

Other than that, looks like not much will be going on for a while, thanks to Omicron.

The in-person 5Ks I’d been considering have been cancelled and, not inclined to walk the college campus in this chilly weather, I guess it’s sitting on my behind season — needlepoint and television.

Speaking of television, I thought this woman did a much better job on the stand than that whiny snotnosed kid.

Was she too acting?

I personally don’t think so.

Seemed genuine to me, and I’m expecting a verdict sometime this week.

I won’t be surprised or upset if she gets a walk, or some kind of slap on the wrist, because this is a tough call.

The whole thing was a comedy of errors, starting with a bullsh!t stop for expired registration tag and air freshener hanging from the rearview mirror, when there’s actual crime in the streets that requires police attention.

Combine the bullcrap stop that shouldn’t have happened in the first place, to Daunte Wright trying to run — which in my mind was like why bro … where did you think you were running to?, then a seasoned cop mistaking a gun for a taser, just a comedy of errors.

Even though I think there should be some punishment for mistaking a gun for a taser, I just don’t know and wouldn’t be able to decide guilt were I on the jury.

  1. I just noticed your new header. Looks great. Sorry if you changed it months ago and I didn't notice.
Cold? Don't you live in S.Cal? I guess it's all relative.
As for this woman, I'm torn. I just think people should know the difference between a taser and a gun and perhaps her best punishment would be never allowed to own a handgun or any gun ever again. She can no longer be a police officer. Perhaps she could be a call center operator. She couldn't possibly harm anyone there. I don't think she is cut out to do the job she was doing previously. Bottom line even if it was just her stupidity, she does not belong on that job. Period. She took a life for no reason at all. There will be lawsuits I am certain.

    1. That was supposed to be my Christmas header but the more I look at it, the less I see Christmas. Others seems to like it so maybe I'll keep it on the regular. Our SoCal weather has not been living up to the hype. For sure there will be lawsuits and maybe a lesson to other cops to stop hassling people of color for bullsh!t reasons.

  2. Bot Carolers would have been fun to see. Seems your complex has good ideas and activities, but they just never quite get it right, when it comes to communication and execution.

    1. That's it in a nutshell ... they just never get it right.

  3. The whiny snotnosed kid and his mother should be in jail. As far as Potter, I don't think she was acting, but... And as far as Wright, if he was that hopped up trying to get away from three cops that had him surrounded, a taser might not have fazed him and a gun would have been next anyway.

    1. Well, you're right about what would have come next anyway. In fact, cops generally begin with that option, whether you're trying to get away or standing still, or sitting, or walking, or or or or etc.

  4. I think she's remorseful but the fact reman she killed someone because she couldn't tell the difference between a Taser and a gun, and that deserves some for of punishment,

    1. And there's the rub ... that someone died because she couldn't tell the difference between a taser and a gun. Had Wright not died, she'd have just lost her job and then have to deal with lawsuits rather than having lost her job, a manslaughter charge and lawsuits coming. The whole thing is just tragic, a comedy of errors. She'll probably end up doing some time, albeit minimum, for her mistake, just like that cop Amber Guyger who mistook Botham Jean's apartment for hers, shot and killed him.

  5. I think she's remorseful and ended a long career in the most horrific way, however, with her level of experience it is unbelievable how neglectful and incompetent she acted. Which, at least the Victim was very Young, probably Scared or nervous, he didn't deserve to die for an Air Freshener Offense and these petty stops that end in taking the Life of an unarmed Citizen are getting so far out of hand that there has to be stiffer consequences for Officers who are killing them. A slap on the Wrist or Walking wouldn't be Justice Served, nobody is inferring she INTENDED to kill this Young Man, but it is Negligent Homicide and for that I could easily render a Verdict. If it were my Son and she walked, my Family would feel Victimized Twice and his Loved Ones deserve Justice to be Served, they have Lost a Son forever and he did nothing that should have warranted that Outcome.

    1. It very well may be she was not good at her job all along and was allowed to slide. It's happened before. And I did wonder at her claim that she didn't want to make the stop, that it was her trainee that insisted. Inasmuch as she had senority, I began thinking ... why didn't she squash the trainee and take charge. So that did make me think she was weak, incompetent. At any rate, it IS a sad ending to a long career.

  6. I have never seen carolers in person. Hopefully they weren't somewhere waiting for people to show up.

    1. I actually had carolers come to my door the first year I lived here. It was a complete surprise. They were drawn in by my patio decorations, then walked around and sang where other colorful decorations had been set up. Guess they figured whoever lived in those units had the Christmas spirit and could appreciate them. They were right.
