Read My Sign

Received a text message just before 7 o’clock tonight …… "Good evening beautiful".

You shouldn't have to think twice to come up with who sent the text.

She says her brother is giving her a lot of scrapbooking supplies, can I find time to do scrapbooking classes.

No, nope, not a chance.

I replied that I don’t have the energy.

It was at last Wednesday's craft class that Crafty Lady was praising the photos I'd posted to the Residents' FB page, asked if I'd taken a photography class.

I'd responded no, that because I scrapbook, I've always taken a lot of photos.

I find it highly suspicious that, after her ferreting out that I scrapbook, her brother all of a sudden comes up with scrapbooking supplies on his own, without her having brought it into being.

I already committed to Crafts tomorrow, but now I'm thinking I'll be a no show AND, if she calls or texts asking if I'm coming down, I'll just say something came up.

I think it best for me to make myself scarce, because she's creeping me out.

Regardless of how others might be reading the situation with this woman, when I put all the pieces together of what she's said, done, all the flattery, constant praising me for one thing or another, that hug, my gut is telling me …… grooming.

It's a waste of her time and, if I make myself scarce, she'll have time to reflect and realize that.

I’ve already got on my calendar to hide from Kesha on Tuesday. Now, I’ll add hide from Crafty Lady on Mondays.

On the premise that a tee is worth a thousand words, I over the weekend thought it would be a good idea to mimic the signs I was asked to make for the fridge and microwave and came up with the idea of putting "Please Note, Do Not Touch the Shirley" on a transfer, iron the transfer onto a shirt.

But then I ran across an image that says it all.

Now, when anyone other than the Baker, the Talker, Family and Blog Friends hold out their arms for a hug, I’ll simply point to the image, say "Read my sign".

    1. Thank the Lord she doesn't live in my quad. She's not too far away, but not so close that we'd bump into each other on the daily.

  2. I used to see a guy in our neighborhood in Sevilla, a mega hunk, who regularly wore a T-shirt with those words. More appropriate on you. I wouldn’t call what she’s doing grooming but she sure seems to have a crush.

    1. Whichever it is, she seems to think I'm stupid, can be manipulated.

  3. Love your shirt.
I am a hugger of certain people, Carlos, family, a few friends, but when random people want a hug? Oh.Hell.No.

    1. Timing is everything. I'll have to make sure to be wearing it when I'm in danger of being hugged by someone I'd rather not.

  5. Sounds like your spidey sense was correct! I agree with you, whatever her agenda really is, it feels creepy.

    1. This is by far the weirdest thing that has ever happened to me, and I've lived through some pretty weird crap.

  6. This doesn't seem to be passing the smell test. Crafty Lady...crafty, indeed. Love the T-shirt. Just point and smile. One and done. Good luck.

  7. I had to read your previous post to get caught up on Crafty Lady. I think you're right to keep your distance - and wear that shirt often!

    1. I'll be sure to wear it every time I'm in the Community Room, which won't be often as I'm making myself scarce ... even scarcer than I was before.

  8. Yea she's sounding weird. Maybe a government infiltrator. Good luck. Kinda worried if ya feel ya gotta hide from some of the apartment characters. You should be able to walk and exist freely where you live. Linda in Kansas

    1. You may be right about infiltrator. She supposedly is a retired Deputy Sheriff, but maybe she's not retired, undercover, and I'm under some kind of investigation, LOL.

  9. Receiving a text like that from someone who is essentially a stranger would creep me out too! Sounds like she wants to be Queen Bee and if she can win you over, she thinks all the others will follow?

    1. No need to win me over. I willingly give her the Usual Suspects. She can have them kit and kaboodle.
