Cleaning House

After seven years of trying ─ annual eviction notices, cease and desist orders, intimidation, management finally achieved its goal .... My buddy Apache has left the premises, been evicted.

It’s not like management finally won ─ Apache has enough documentation that he could have fought this latest eviction notice and won yet again. It’s more that Apache just got tired of it all and decided to pack up his stuff and go.

He’s moved in with one of his sisters for the time being.

Management has been pretty busy with its cleaning house lately.

First they had the landscapers remove all the lush greenery and, thus far, replaced with starter plants (I can’t identify, because my knowledge of plants is limited), covering the dirt around them with something that looks like wood chips, and bringing in rocks.

Simultaneously, management took on the feral cats.

Inasmuch as the cat traps have been removed and I’ve seen no cats, I’m assuming management won that battle, cleared ‘em all out ─ but I can’t help but wonder that new feral cats will eventually find their way onto the property.

Also, management evicted Cat Lady. Because she was a danger to others, management didn’t even give her a notice. They just showed up with law enforcement, had her escorted out of her unit, put her out on the streets, tossed her belongings in the trash ─ that is after they took what they wanted for themselves.

Now they’ve evicted that thorn in their side, my buddy Apache.

Him, they went by the book ─ gave a 30-day notice because, expecting yet another court battle, they had to dot all the i’s cross the t’s.

It probably surprised management when Apache, instead of the usual fight, packed his belonging and moved out.

Going to be boring around here without Apache stirring up trouble for management.

Returning from the Pain Cave this morning, realizing today is Cinco de Mayo, I threw together yet another kale creation ─ Potato and Kale tamales.

That turned out to be a winning recipe. You can’t believe how tasty they were.

There are many many perks to living alone. My top two is that 1) I have control of the remote at all times; 2) When I go to the trouble of making tamales, I don’t have to share. I get to eat them all.

  1. I'm not a fan of tamales. I'm not a fan of kale. Potatoes are o.k. You win, enjoy your tamales.

  2. I admit...your tamales look tasty....I'll be right there toots!

I almost feel sorry for the Cat Lady just being tossed aside now homeless, and they just trashed her belongings?!?!? I didn't know they could do that. I hope she finds help. And just what we need more cats roaming the streets too. They should have at least taken them to a local ASPCA, for petes sake.

    1. It's difficult for me to feel sorry for Cat Lady because she so brought it upon herself. The last straw being when she had police raid her neighbor's apartment, guns drawn, with her claim they were "killing cats and people". Management could have called an agency and gotten her help and outta here in a kinder manner, but kind is not their way. My buddy Apache did see her down the street and called the 911 homeless outreach to come rescue her. As for management being able to do that, you’d be surprised how seniors that have no one and cannot defend themselves are taken advantage of. Even having someone is no guarantee because there have been disputes about letting family remove furnishings after death of a resident, which ended with management refusing entry to family AND calling the cops. Management did say cats were taken to a shelter. I don't believe them and it would serve them right if an entire new colony of feral cats moved in. LOL.

  3. WHOA! now who's going to provide drama for your complex, if not apache? and the new landscaping looks stupid.

    1. ROFLMAO! Not knowing anything about plants, I wasn't sure my thinking "stupid" was valid. You thinking the same is validating.

  4. I'm so sorry to hear Apache grew weary of the harassment and decided, on his own terms, to leave. However, from what you regaled us with about his escapades, he was True to his Name. My Dear Ole' Dad used to say that it was said you could fight an Apache all Day long and never see one. Masterful at the Art of Battle, it's why they were the very last Tribe to be subdued, and made to comply, but they did it on their own terms, when they decided it was just time to. Everyone knows Geronimo's Name Worldwide, nobody remembers the Names of his Enemies, they weren't worth remembering and never reached Iconic Status. Cat Lady, it was cruel to put an Elder out like that, Adult Social Services should have been involved to ensure her Safety and Well Being, even if she was a danger to Self and possibly others due to her Mental Condition being so deteriorated and her Habits being unacceptable for continued occupancy there. Feral Cats generally don't have a good Outcome, it's tragic. Your Tamales sound delish, I've never heard of Kale and Potato Tamales, did you invent the recipe yourself?

    1. You nailed it. Apache was definitely true to his name. Looking to add more energy enhancing kale to my food program, when I began thinking of a kale tamale I did some online research and that's how I ran across the vegan recipe for potatoes and kale tamales. Delicious!

  5. Wow, sounds like you have as much craziness happening around that apartment complex as I do in mine. I post about mine on Sundays. I love tamales.

    1. Hi, there. I don't remember how I got there, but I landed on one of your Apartment Life posts. I dunno, but I think, as crazy as it gets here, yours wins. LOL. I'll have to remember to check in on Sundays. Me too, on tamales. So glad I learned how to make my own and don't have to risk ingredients in store bought.

  6. Apache and his adventures will be missed. I hope he finds a good place to settle. What a feisty person!
Cat lady is to be pitied as she obviously had mental problems, poor soul.
I hope no more cats show up, there is no reason for them to come as long as nobody feeds them, is there?
I give you enormous credit for creating all these recipes using kale. I like it but somehow never buy it, I tend to use spinach which I love - frozen or fresh.
I shall now have a search to read Mary K's blog.

    1. Yep. I miss Apache already. You can bet that, if more cats find there way here, they will be fed. Some of the old ladies can't help themselves. Spinach is good to. I hear it "makes you strong to the finish", lol. It's always nice to browse up on an interesting blog.

  7. I'm an adventurous cook, but I'm afraid to tackle tamales. However, if I did I would definitely try your filling.
