Two Insults in One Message

Today started off funky, with the results of yesterday’s blood draw — sodium levels are high and Cholesterol/HDL/LDL are off the chart. The Medical Record sums it up as "Morbidly Obese" and having "Fat Blood".

Two insults in one message.

"Fat Blood"??!! … what does that even mean and, hopefully, the vampires won’t find out about it, because it sounds like something they'd like and they'll want some.

You readers have seen photos of me. I’m not a Size 1, but I’m having trouble accepting myself as morbidly obese, so I’m just gonna let that one slide.

Of course, attached to the results, are suggested measures to not be morbidly obese with fat blood.

Suggestions include eating all the things the Gastro Specialist indicated I can no longer eat, such as fruits, whole grains, beans, nuts, soy products, because I’ve developed an allergy and it was those foods causing my gut episodes.

I’m also to limit sodium and alcohol — which I thought I was limiting sodium using pink sea salt, and I don’t drink.

Also, I’m to limit drinks and foods with added sugar.

I haven’t had a soda in a decade and, except for the occasional See’s Candy (which I have no intentions of giving up), sugar has for years been substituted with Stevia (the plant-based sugar substitute that I was using long before Walter White/Heisenberg made the product infamous in Breaking Bad).

In addition to the above, also added to the cure is to “Be physically active. Try to do moderate activity at last 2-1/2 hours a week. Do not smoke”.

Working out — in one form or another is my middle name, and I've never smoked. So, from my point of view, I’ve been doing everything right, insofar as my gut issues will allow, and it's all going wrong. I'm getting negative results.

It’s frustrating, confusing, and bummed me out a bit this morning because, what I see as my options, in order not to be “morbidly obese” and have “fat blood”, is to go back to the foods that make me ill.

I’ll be cramping and puking my guts all day, but I’ll lower my cholesterol and maybe get thin.

So that’s how the day started but, after a good workout in the Pain Cave, I was ready to put those results behind me, get groceries at the other store and move on.

Pulling into a parking space at the other market, I saw the cutest little car parked facing me.

Leaving the market, I heard sirens, saw fire and rescue passing by, and observed helicopters above.

Correctly assuming there was a fire nearby, I returned to the complex to find it was just down the street from the market, near Walmart, and it was bad — quickly spreading to 50 acres, causing those living near the area to evacuate.

On my way to pick up mail, I managed to get photos (not good ones) of the billowing smoke from the fire.

I also finally ran into Jan, the painted rock lady. Told her I was the one who’d taken the bible verse rocks, said I was impressed with how neatly she managed to get an entire verse on the rocks and asked how she managed it.

"Carefully", was her response.

Jan is all excited about being admitted to the hospital next week for knee surgery, which she feels will enable her to walk without use of a walker.

I don’t know how safe it is to be hospitalized and have surgery during this pandemic, but I wished her a successful surgery and speedy recovery.

  1. Aw jeepers. Might want to have the blood tests redone. It almost sounds like they mixed up names and samples. Especially if any of those results hadn't been creeping up on you from past testings. Never heard of fat blood, much less as a medical term. Yeah, we know it's cuz the cholesterol is too high, but that's a weird term. Check with a certified dietician, but I think salt is salt, no matter how pretty it is. Next time, stay and see who owns a car like that! Linda in Kansas

    1. High cholesterols has been creeping up, but I refused to take the pills the doctor was pushing. I may have to acquiesce and take 'em now. I almost did stay to see who owned the car. I envisioned a little old guy. Hope I see it again so I can see who owns it.

  2. Nine months of the year on the first Friday evening there is a car rally at a big church parking lot not to far from my house. All kinds of old cars will drive by my house on the way to the rally.

You're not morbidly obese. You're vertically challenged. Ask the doc how you can get taller.

    1. LOL, taller, but no thanks. Morbidly obese my aunt alice. The bmi index is faulty. Sounds like you're in a great location to see the cars heading for the car show. I'd be out in the yard with my camera, taking pics.

  3. Fat Blood!?!?!? Good Grief, I've heard everything now.

And that car reminds of of the one the Munsters drove.

    1. I googled it. Fat blood is a thing. Who knew. I'm not sure about the car resembling the Munster's auto. Maybe if it didn't have a top.

  4. My dad had 'thick blood' and had to be on thinners later in life. I think that's what they mean and it gets 'sticky' and eventually clogs the arteries. Weight charts do not cater for individuals- when I was in my 20s I was told by a (rather large) nurse that I was obese- I was doing modelling at the time and didn't have an ounce to lose! My husband was furious and we made a complaint as I was worried about young people getting stressed and causing eating issues. Over here they are finally having a rethink on the classifications. You carry on as you are, eat healthy, work out and enjoy life! Viv

    1. Being judged obese because of my blood results, and not my body form, is new to me. But, like you suggested, I intend to carry on, enjoy myself.

  5. I agree with DrumMajor. You should definitely have your blood work done again. And muscle weighs more than flab, so that might be factoring into your high BMI.

    1. I probably will, but I'm going to first make a few tweaks to my food program, take the cholesterol pill doctor is pushing, then ask for update to see if any improvement.

    2. I'm sure you will be okay on the cholesterol pills - hubby had 2 strokes this year (both mild- thank goodness), but hasn't had any side effects from his cholesterol tablets. Better to err on the side of caution 😏

    3. I tend to lean towards holistic remedies, I really don't like taking pills but, when pushed to the brink, like with my giving in to Blood Pressure medication, I'll fold, take the cholesterol pills, see how it goes. Your hubby has had not one, but two strokes this year. Bless his heart. It's been a hard year for some of us.

  6. Love that darling little yellow car but would be afraid to leave it parked in public. We know someone with a vintage Studebaker and he always sits in a restaurant so he can keep an eye on it.
You have an incredibly healthy diet and take extraordinary care with it, I am impressed as can be. I pretty much eat and enjoy everything.
My husband discovered he is deficient in salt! We would have guessed just the opposite as he loves to eat salty snacks ( pretzels etc.). The doctors told him to eat as many as he likes!

    1. My "healthy diet" is of necessity, not choice. I WISH I could eat and enjoy anything I wanted. Your husband eating salty snacks and coming up deficient in salt is puzzling. You're right about that little yellow car, especially in that area, which is not the best.
