Third of Halloween

Running on empty.

Plan for today was to get up early, run errands, return to the complex by 11:00 to attend Boebert’s going away party. However, after binge watching episodes of Bridgerton until 3 o’clock this morning, trying to get out early enough to get back in time, after only 4 hours of sleep, that plan fell apart.

No matter, as I wasn’t all that keen on attending the going away party.

Making the better use of my time and what little energy I did have, I finally made it out of the area to Sprouts and See’s, where I loaded up on enough of my special medication to get me through all the bullshiz leading up to the election and the never-ending family drama.

We finally got this month’s Activity Calendar posted to our doors today.

There’s another Community Meeting on Friday the 18th, 11:00, same time as my workout. So no thanks because, based on the last meet, it’s not worth missing a workout.

I’ll depend on the grapevine to cue me in on what now is "Not okay".

Also on the calendar, is a blurb, "Reminder per your lease agreement residents are responsible for light bulbs and other resident related damages".

No. 1, there must be a new lease going around, because I can find no mention of that in mine.

No. 2, I seem to recall that, just last month, when Compton’s mom got into that argument with manager — about manager wanting Compton gone, and mom questioned manager about the rent increases, asking what’s in the lease about the increases; Manager had said, "We don’t have leases here anymore".

Me thinks manager is just making up crap as she goes along, but I asked Google about the legality of it and got double talk.

"Yes, property management can charge for light bulb replacement if the lease states that the tenant is responsible for replacing the bulbs" (I don’t see where it says so in my lease).

But then, on the other hand Google says ……

"In general, the tenant is responsible for replacing light bulbs in the unit or in appliances that belong to them (we don’t own the fixture or the appliances). The landlord is usually responsible for replacing bulbs if they are the ones who do the work" (what does that mean? It’s double talk).

At any rate, there's more important things to obsess over than manager’s making shiz up as she goes along …… a money grab but, when my renewal comes up in a few weeks, I’ll take my lease agreement down with me, ask to be shown where it says we’re responsible for light bulbs.

Also, on the calendar is a Harvest Festival ………… "Join us for a spooktacular Day, Tuesday October 29, 11am – 3pm, Halloween Costume Contest".

Y’all know how I enjoy dressing up cosplay style, but this event is reading like another fool me, like the decorating designer apples thing, because of the day’s full schedule.

So, which is it? Are we having a festival and costume contest from 11 to 3, or is it all this other crap until 12:30 and then, 12:30 to 1:30, the Halloween Spooktacular Event/DIY Dessert?

This management group's incompetence is soooooo tiresome.

    1. Guess they think we're a managed care facility, and those hours night for us, nearing our bedtime.

  3. Clearly, you got to See's Candies JUST IN TIME. Between the building management and the upcoming election, you're going to need a LOT of your Special Medication!

  4. We don’t have leases anymore and you must follow the rules of the lease. We’ll can tell you all about it or we won’t when we have our Halloween Spooktacular but we meant to say Bring It Yourself Dessert not DIY and we won’t provide food because the community refrigerator is only for us and the prizes for the costume contest will be whatever you bring yourselves.

I’d be sitting right now with a box of Mrs. See’s chocolates in my lap.

  5. Do they update a new lease for you to sign each year. That's what my place does and they add addendums to the old lease to add things on to it each year. My lease is not 30 pages long. lol

    1. Mine is single space, 39 pages, legal sized (8.5 x 14), LOL, and management doesn’t even know what’s in it because they once tried to raise the rent on a woman who’d moved in just months earlier (because it was raise the rent time for the rest of us). Fortunately, she knew the law, double checked the lease, and it said management could only raise the rent once-a-year …. Not just because it’s in the lease, but because it’s the law. So they had to take back her notice of increase, couldn’t raise her rent until the next year when rents were raised. I recertify every year, supposedly to make sure my finances are still low enough for me to continue to live here, even though I’ve been told I’m grandfathered in and my finances are not an issue …… more double talk. The lease I was given when I moved in is the only lease I’ve ever been given, so if they’ve changed the terms and conditions, I’ll have to check to see if a newer lease (if there is one) even applies to me.

  6. Between sending seniors with foreseeable mobility issues out onto wet floors and under kitchen cabinets to shut off water valves and now sending the same seniors with foreseeable balance issues up on ladders to change light bulbs (Let's not even talk about those who would stand on a chair) the Management is setting the stage for a rash of falls. This is easily foreseeable, and perhaps somewhat obvious, given the demographic of the tenent population. Save all the communication in a file (ask for written confirmation of anything that was announced in a meeting - "just for clarification..."). If anything happens to you they should be responsible for any expenses you incur. It seems that if they can't make it unpleasant enough for anyone to move, they're going to try to kill you off.

PS Sounds as though I need some See's now.

    1. It's what happens when incompetent people are placed in positions of authority, and you can bet I get everything in writing. All my communications are to the office via email, just so I've got it in writing. I've a file on management with maintenance requests, pictures of the locked refrigerator, all their written communications to us seniors. They keep urging us to pay rent through some 3rd party portal, which portal costs US $3.50 (another money grab), but I insist on paying by check, so I'll have a record of payment. My mama didn't raise no fool.

  7. I think a lot of property managers make stuff up as they go, figuring people won't want to deal with reading their leases and such, and will just go along. Good for you for asking the "why?"!
