Bucket List

Not the adventurous type, there's not a lot I want to experience in this life that I've not already done so.

I'm content to just take adventures as they occur.

Consequently, I've never had a bucket list per se, but have thought I'd like to see and experience snow before I die.

I guess the end is near because I opened the blinds this morning — looking to see if there’d been a break in the rain so I could head to the mall and found this …………….

I won't bore you further with my excitement at experiencing snow for the first time, or overload your computer capabilities, any more than I already have, with all the other videos I've taken of this momentous occasion.

After carefully walking around the complex so as to not slip and fall, visiting the Baker, waking up Red Light so she could see the snow, with slush seeping through the bottom of my boots, socks beginning to feel wet, I headed back upstairs to dump the snow off my umbrella and make a teeny tiny snowman on the patio.

Believe it or not, I tried to set the phone to video tape me making a snow angel on the patio, but it didn't work.

The end result didn't look much like a snow angel anyway, LOL.

OR did it?

    1. LOL. Thanks for the snow. Can you make it less slushy next time so I can build a better snowman?

  2. I am so excited for you that you got to see snow. And enough that it was actually sticking a little bit. Who would have thought?!?!?!

    1. I used to joke about it being so cold that we'd get snow, which was laughed it. Now anything is possible.

  3. Sweep the steps with a broom BEFORE you go down them. Otherwise where you step won't sweep off. And don't lean to far over when you're doing that! Remember this for next time.
We get some of our heaviest snows in St. Louis in late March. At least we used to. Maybe you're getting our snow. I'll see if I can send you some more.

  4. I love your snow angel. What an exciting day. I could hear you excitement. Loved seeing Stalker enjoying the snow. Did I hear you say “She's nice. Her daughter sucks.”?

    1. You heard correctly, LOL. That was Nurse Ratched's mom ... THE Nurse Ratched that's been mentioned in the blog because of how mean she was to us residents during the years she was Complex Manager No. 1. During that time, she moved her mom in, various other relatives and rumor has it that Head Maintenance Guy is also related to her family.

  5. What a cute surprise for you! Yep, sweep it off your walkways first, then go play in it. Never seen anyone use an umbrella in the snow. Just bundle up with a hooded jacket and gloves. You can use your broom to sweep off the windshield of your car too. Use an old credit card if you don't have a scrapper to remove ice from your windows. Put your socked feet into a large plastic baggie if you think the snow will leak into your shoes. Take a second set of gloves and shoes with you to your destination. LOVE your angel prints and the little snowman. A little bit more and you could make snow ice cream: non-yellow snow, sugar, vanilla extract. Nice that you still have the kid in you. Linda in Kansas

    2. "Never seen anyone use an umbrella in the snow" .... I'm a newbie to snow etiquette. Seemed the right thing to do at the time, LOL

  6. I'm happy you got the experience. Last week we got an additional 2 feet of snow! Probably more than you would want to see. I haven't seem umbrellas used in snowfall but it does make sense.

    1. Absolutely more than we'd want to see. Would require shovels and chains for our tires.

    1. I certainly hope so. I'll build a bigger snowman, make a better angel, but still use my umbrella 🙂

  8. Enjoy the snow - our snow over here in the UK tends to be mushy so not too good for making snowmen. (Yours is really cute!)

  9. I read once that the two coasts would switch climate and weather conditions because climate change would take effect. I think it's happening. The last two years we had our warmest winters on record.

My one daughter lives there and I worry. Between earthquakes, wildfires, droughts, coastline erosion, and now these rainstorms, floods, and now snow...she is rethinking her move. How much can one state endure? It's like a ticking timebomb..

    1. As long as we don't have tornadoes, I think California is still the place to be all things considered. That switching climate and weather conditions sounds about right. Our summers are brutal hot, so I pity whoever gets those in the switch.

  10. Looks like a wet snow so brushing it doesn't work as well as if its a dry snow. But I am sure by now it's gone since this is CA. Glad you got some snow though. We are having a heat wave on this coast and it's so damn weird to have 85 degrees in February!!

  11. Just looked at your videos. (Like I've seen snow for a jillion years.) As you see in your sequence videos, it melted on the street because the street was still warmer than 32degreesF, but the steps are elevated and cooler than 32, so the snow was staying on them. If you can't find ice melt, or rock salt, (worrying about the environment is moot compared to a broken hip,) grab some cartons of regular table salt to sprinkle on the steps after you, and as you sweep them off. At home in OKC, they had a rare ice storm. I only had Mom's table salt to get to the mailbox! Have fun! Be safe though. Snow melts into ice overnight if you're still cold enough. Your two walking sticks might sense the street for you. Good tires still don't work well on icy streets. Not sure if you've ever seen studded snow tires. Probably illegal in California, and too costly. SOOO delighted at your tender age that you got to SEE snow. Instead of an umbrella, you're supposed to open your mouth and catch those big flakes! Don't put your mouth on a flagpole though. Linda in Kansas

    1. I'll have to try that open mouth and catch next time. Maybe catch some in a jar add sugar and extract.

  12. I had heard that Southern Cali got as much as Six Foot of Snow and that was rather unbelievable, but, climate change being Real and all, not completely a Surprise. We're having Colder, Wetter Weather here in the Desert, so much so that they did a Study on the Saguaro Cacti, which are suffering from the changes and it could make them extinct if things continue to change too much, they're only found in a couple locations as it is now and they are magnificent, but now threatened. Glad you got to experience Snow for the first time, Princess T did too this Winter, Timmy took her up North with their Family to their Northern Arizona Cabin and she got to experience it and said once was enough... LOL.

    1. If snow becomes a regular thing for us and an inconvenience, I imagine the time will come when I feel like Princess T .... enough already, LOL.

    1. It was amazing and, looking at the videos I didn't post, I see at least one other neighbor was using an umbrella. Others were wearing hoodies, but I'm surprised at the number of residents who stayed indoors, did not come outside to experience.
