Deja Vu

I’ve not had a package go missing since that pompous arrogant mailman who said, “I don’t make mistakes” retired. But here I am yet again, with a delivery showing up online as being placed in a locker on the 7th, but the key obviously being placed in the wrong box because it surely didn’t make it to mine.
I’m debating whether it’s worth the aggravation to make a big deal about it, i.e., go to the post office, report a mistake having been made, talk to the mail person on duty that day and, for sure, there’s no point to expect the person who received the package in error to be honest and turn it over, because it’s likely the same person that was the recipient of the goods not belonging to them last year, goods which they kept and/or used and/or sold, has no intention of being honest this time around.
Hard to believe there are people like that in the world, yet alone in the complex where I live, a neighbor of sort.
Maybe I’ll just post a sign at the mailbox and on the bulletin board that, “Will the person who received a package of Bulletproof Coffee from Amazon in error, please drop off at the door of the appropriate unit, no questions asked.”
I’ll have to think of how to proceed while I’m sitting in the spa chair, as I’m outta here in a bit, heading for a much-needed manicure/pedicure.
At any rate, whether I decide to make a big deal of it or not, whether I decide to post a sign or not, I’m chuckling a bit at the thought that, if the person decides to keep the coffee, brew it for themselves, they’re in for a big surprise as there’s a period for the body to adjust itself to butter coffee. If one has never used it before, one is going to experience an out-of-control system flush – if you know what I mean. Instant Karma of sort.

Keep This Notice

Opening the mailbox yesterday, right on top I spied a card captioned “Official Business of the Court”. On the flip side were the words “This notice is to confirm that you have been permanently excused from jury service … keep this notice for your records”.
Whoopdedo!
Keep it? I’m gonna frame it!
Had I known it was this easy … a simple notation on the summons to “Please remove my name from rotation”, I’d have done it the second I hit 70 years of age -- the age when an exemption can be requested.
Of course, my stomach issues weren’t as bad at age 70 as they are now, but still to the point where I could have received a medical exemption.
At any rate, that’s one less glorious thing I have to deal with out in the world.
Speaking of dealing with things out in the world, I logged on one day to find I’d suddenly had an enormous rise in visitors, over 1500 in one day to be precise.
I’m not THAT interesting, so I chalked it up to some sort of mistake until the high numbers kept rolling in, followed by comments. The comments were nice, but the fact that they came in with a mask on, gave me pause.
I ignored those as well, but when they persisted, I solved the issue by shutting comments down completely, thought better of it, and am in the process of trying a different setting.
I realize this setting has, in the past, caused issues for those of you whose comments I value. I apologize, but it has to be this way because of the weird happenings.
Tonight’s movie in the Community Room is Will Smith’s Independence Day.
I’ll pass.

Instant Karma

Fourth of July was quiet around here … until about 9:00 p.m., then it was bombs bursting in air.
I looked out the patio and bedroom windows, trying to catch a glimpse, but the light show was on the other side of the complex. I would have had to go outside to watch, which is what some of the neighbors did.
Earlier in the day, I managed to finish laundry, log 6 miles into the San Francisco Challenge, and fix the problem with the improperly ironed and stretched landscape piece.

BEFORE
AFTER
I even managed to lug the carpet cleaner out of the patio storage area, but that’s as far as I got with cleaning the carpet. I’ll get around to it tomorrow.
Instead, I got online and spent hours laughing at what clever people had done with Photoshop and that photo of New Jersey Governor Christy lounging on a “closed to public” beach – of which these are just a hilarious few.

Today, I headed out to the craft store to pick up floss for my next project. While waiting in line, I observed a grandmother and her two grand girls at the check stand. Took them quite a while, the line was backing up and, after all was said and done, they walked away without their purchase. The woman at the register yelled out, “Ma’am”, held up the package, one of the grand girls went “Ohhhh”, ran back, grabbed the package, and I laughed out loud.
I thought the scene was funny.
When it was my turn at the check stand, I gave the girl at the register my cell phone, so she could scan my coupon, paid for my purchases and, in the process of stuffing change and the cell phone back into my fanny pack and getting out of the way, so as to not hold up the next person, I walked away from my package.
I heard the girl at the register yell out, “Ma’am”, went back, grabbed my package and avoided making eye contact with those in line behind me who’d heard me, just moments before, laugh when it happened to someone else.
Wasn’t so funny when it happened to me, but serves me right.

Happy Birthday America

The original plan for today was to celebrate the 4th in Long Beach – drive up on the 1st, suit up in those patriotic leggings I made back in 2014 and participate in America the Beautiful Beach 5k on the 2nd, layover to attend a family event on the 4th, return afternoon of the 5th.
That was the plan, but then that summons -- to appear for jury duty on the 5th, threw a monkey wrench in the plan and, by the time I’d figured out how to get out of jury duty, I’d taken the summons as a sign and lost interest in Long Beach, that 5K and family.
No idea what the seniors are up to today.
No one signed up for the BBQ scheduled for the 2nd. That doesn’t mean the folks didn’t get together yet and still, but that was World UFO 10K Day, so I never made it down to check.
Some of the residents that didn’t leave the complex today, to spend the 4th with family, may do something impromptu in the Community Room. But, I find I’m not feeling all that social or patriotic under the current political climate, so the plan for today is laundry, logging in a few more miles to reach the required 39.8 for the San Francisco Challenge and, if I’m not too exhausted after all that, to shampoo the carpet.
Even though I don’t generate a lot of dirty laundry, having to go down to the laundry room is my least favorite chore. Doing laundry is such a pain that sometimes I go out and purchase more sheets, towels, undies, just to put the dreaded chore off.
Hopefully, the other residents are otherwise occupied in celebrating today, and I have the laundry room to myself. If relocating end of year is in my future, I’ll be looking for a unit with a washer/dryer hookup.
I finished the needlepoint landscape yesterday.
A lot of embellishments went into the project at the end stage -- french knots, back stitching, cording, all of which brought the project to life.

Even though it’s now more pleasing to me, I’m not proud because I could have done a better job of pressing and stretching.
Since I’m not keeping it for myself -- because I don’t really care for landscapes, I figured The Seer and visitors to her unit probably wouldn’t know the canvas was not as taut as it should be. But the perfectionist in me is feeling so guilty about the wrinkles that I’ll undo the backing, press, stretch and make it right.
FYI, due to something weird going on in blogger, comments have been disabled, but I’ll see you around and leave comments on your posts.

Happy World UFO Day

But first … Happy Belated Canada Day to my Canadian readers.
There was a 5K for that you know.

Nice medal, but a 39.8 mile virtual San Francisco challenge appeared in email on Friday.

Of course, I registered quick, fast, in a hurry. So, already in the process of tooling around on the indoor bike for that challenge, which should take about a week, I had to pass on Canada Day.
Plus, I’d registered weeks ago for today’s World UFO’s 10K.

Consequently, my geek meter required I take a break from San Francisco today and devote 6.21 miles to World UFO.
Researching what this day is about, I learned, “World UFO Day is an awareness day for people to gather together and watch the skies for unidentified flying objects. The day is celebrated by some on June 24, and others on July 2. June 24 is the date that aviator Kenneth Arnold reported what is generally considered to be the first widely reported unidentified flying object sighting in the United States, while July 2 commemorates the supposed UFO crash in the 1947".
Hard core believers will be celebrating with “Sky Watching Parties”.
For me, it’s just another opportunity to earn a cool medal.
I can’t remember where I saw this posted but, well over a month ago, I read where a husband and wife were having a conversation wherein the husband lamented, in regards to alien life, that “None of it is true … the UFO’s … Area 51 ... Roswell, none of it is true.” The wife asked, “How do you know … How can you be sure?". “Because”, said the husband, “If it were true, do you think Trump could keep is big fat mouth shut about it.”

Hits and Misses

The showing of Age of Adaline, at this evening's movie night, was a huge hit.
The room was full, residents clapped at the end and approached Apache (Movie Guy) saying, “That was a good movie. Thank you for showing it”.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised residents didn’t spread the word as to how good it was and another showing is requested by those that missed it.
While in the Community Room, I checked the sign-up sheet for Sunday’s BBQ. I don’t know whose deal that is, possibly organized by neighbor President of the Resident Activity Committee, but there doesn’t seem to be any interest, no one signed up.
That may be because the July Activity Calendar was distributed today and indicates management is hosting a BBQ Blast on the 11th.  Also on the calendar is news that a Low-Impact Exercise Program, with music, is coming to us in August.
Whoopdedoo!
Hopefully we get enough interest to make the program a hit.
It took a minute for me to adjust to those bright and colorful Wonder Woman leggings but, inasmuch I’ve worn them while out and about and no one has commented, I feel like I blend in, which makes me comfortable that I don’t always have to wear dark colors.
When I went online to respond to a request to review those leggings, and saw they’d added Beauty and the Beast Leggings to their line, I snagged a pair of those as well.
