Waste of Time

I’m not talking about yet another fake assassination attempt; though I am getting a kick out of the memes the latest desperate attempt to distract from the Epstein files, the Economy and Iran have generated.

The waste of time I’m referring to is Painted Rock Lady asking me to make flyers … One for a CERT class she wants to teach and one for Game Day Fun where we would have different games in the clubhouse. The last flyer being what kind of games residents would like to play.

I have no idea what CERT is, don’t have a problem designing flyers for her, in fact we’re having a client meeting in the Community Room tomorrow, so I can get an idea of what she (the client) has in mind, I just think she won’t find many residents interested in either.

Even attendance at bingo appears to be declining as the Usual Suspects pass away or move and none of the new residents join in.

But I’ll do the flyers, let her spin her wheels.

I may have a new neighbor on the 2nd Floor Landing soon.

After no prep work being done on the vacant unit since Next Door Neighbor moved away, I heard the sound of drills, hammering, saw a painter enter the unit on Friday, what’s left of that doormat disappeared, and today there’s a barrage of activity … someone bringing in new blinds, new carpet being installed, hammering, banging, stapling.

I doubt I’ll see a potential new resident come to view the unit. They don’t do that here.

They did when I moved in under a different management group.

I was asked what did I have in mind, to which I replied "Lots and lots of sunlight".

The Leasing Agent pulled out her clipboard with a list of units available, led me to this one first and, as soon as she opened the door, I broke out in a big smile, didn’t need to see any other unit. This one felt perfect, and remains so.

Now, folks just seem to move in. Sometimes in the dead of night, sometimes just quietly materialize.

I don’t know if this is because folks are moving in from out-of-state, designate upstairs or downstairs, and just take what’s available, as Next-Door Neighbor did or if the County needs to quickly place someone in a unit sight unseen.

As prepping the unit is now on a fast track, I’ll soon have a new neighbor to come up with a blog name for.

I hope the person likes Halloween, doesn't spook easy at my decorations.

  1. Is it possible that people look at the suites online? I certainly wouldn't want to rent any place without personally seeing it first.

    1. I just checked the website and see one can view the floorplan and a simulation of how one of the bathrooms would look with a floor rug, towels on the rack and toiletries, and there's a photo of the game room, but all you get of the actual units are the various floorplans for 1 and 2 bedrooms. I guess it would be difficult to get a photo of a fully dressed unit, there is not a model to view. It's clean, compared to other senior buildings, so I guess they're willing to take the risk and the reviews aren't bad ..... except for management.

  2. Y'all might need a door decoration to scare off the crazies if Management decides to show the unit.

    1. That's devious, LOL. Maybe the buddhas in the kitchen window and the security camera is enough to give them second thoughts.

  3. It sounds like Painted Rock Lady wants to set up a Community Emergency Response Team. In a sane world (or residential complex like yours), that would be management’s job. I think you should have first right of refusal (of any new tenant).

    1. That makes Painted Rock Lady's request for a flyer even less likely to go anywhere. She herself is not in good health and I'm sure that, even though management doesn't have an emergency plan, they'd have something to say about her setting something up. First Rights of Refusal seems reasonable to me, LOL.

  4. I'd build a haunted mansion at my door before new neighbors moved in, with a sign reading "Welcome to Hell."
    But that's just me.

    1. 🤣🤣🤣 but don't think I'm not going to see if I can find a doormat that says that.

  5. Even if the newly doesn't like Halloween ( I don't) they should be fine with you , I like your fun approach to it and your lovely sense of humor! I hope you get a good neighbour this time. Mine ( in WA ) are great and it does help make life so much better! Before we left IL we had the exact same next door neighbors both sides for 29 years and zero problems. JanF

  6. I do hope you get a nice new neighbour, but if you really want to put them off, install some yellow crime scene tape across their door or yours...

  7. Love the Staged Assassin. I have been to apartments that wanted to hustle you by not showing you the exact apartment you would be renting. Some don't even have a model to show, although even that is not enough for me. This place seems to get it together soon after someone moves so they can start showing. I wonder if it has anything to do with it being a 55+. Seems like anyone my age would insist on seeing the apartment they are going to live in for the next odd years.

    1. We had one resident, no longer here, that said she was on the waiting list for a looooong time. So, I assume those on the list are willing to take whatever opens up, sight unseen, to get in. After having waited so long to get in, that resident didn't reup for a second year. Not sure why. Maybe all the management rules, maybe personal issues. We do seem to have a very transit community ... a few of us Usual Suspects, long-time residents, and many who come and go.

    1. 🤣🤣 If easily terrified this might turn into an episode of that TV show Fear Thy Neighbor.
