Wrong Day

Notices went out yesterday, to those of us who are not supported by the County that, effective September 1, rent is increased an additional $74.

That’s not too terrible awful, so no complaints from me; however, it reminded me to check my balance in the Rent Café account I’d opened separate and apart from my regular bank.

Speaking of Rent Café, thanks to my following up (with the office, who in turn followed up with Corporate) on SoCalFifi’s comment that "According to Mr. Google 'California Civil Code § 1947.3: prohibits landlords from requiring tenants to pay rent only by electronic means'", there has been no more mention of Rent Café, no more pushing the program on us, no more coming up with ways and means to force us to sign up.

Now that the office, by getting rid of the drop box to force us into Rent Café, only to find, by law, they have to accept checks, the office has essentially created more work for itself, rather than less; a cluster you know what, because of the chaos of so many bombarding the office on the 1st of the month, trying to pay rent on time to avoid being saddled with a late charge.

To alleviate the crush of residents all showing up on the same day, the office has now even had to extend the grace period to the 7th of each month before late charges begin to apply.

If, in the end, it all gets too much for the office, and they reopen the drop box, I’m cancelling Rent Café and going back to dropping off checks.

So, anyway, after checking the Rent Café account this morning, seeing the account could use an injection, I choose today to get up/out into the world of people, get it done.

Plan was to kill several birds with one stone — drive to Sprouts market for items not available locally, withdraw cash from my bank a few doors down, drive over and deposit into the Rent Café bank a few miles away, pick up cleaning products from Lowe’s in that area, treat myself to a Venti Half Caf Americano at the Starbucks in that same area, head back home.

That plan fell apart.

After loading Sprouts groceries into the car, I walked over to the bank and was greeted with a line so long that I almost couldn’t get inside the doors.

Wrong Day, I uttered out loud, as I turned around, headed back to the car.

It hadn’t occurred to me that today is Friday which, for one reason or another, is the busiest banking day.

It would have been nice to get banking off my bucket list today, not have to drive out of the area again any time soon but, so long as I get it taken care of in the next 30 days, the Rent Café account won’t run dry.

So, banking out of the plan, I headed to Lowe’s where I found Halloween, or as Debra puts it “Augtober” has begun.

After Lowe’s, it was Starbucks and then back to the complex where I get a text message from the Baker asking me to redo the flyers for August bingo, because the time is changing from 12 noon to 10:15 in the AM due to the office closing at 2:00 on both dates she’d originally had me print flyers for.

Jesus F___ing Christ!

These ever-changing flyers!

  1. That Nosferatu figure is pretty scary and would be more so at night -- those glowing red eyes! But the little skelly and ghost figures are cute as buttons.

    1. Wish they'd had a patio sized version of Nosferatu. He'd look good with Skelly.

  2. Not only was today Friday, but it was also the first day of the month. I hope you're not printing stacks of flyers for the Baker each time.

    1. I don't know what I was thinking heading out on Friday the 1st. I've cut down on how many I provide Baker. Was 25 before, now it's 12 because I can't trust her to not cause me to run out of paper and ink helter skelter.

  3. Like you said, there’s a lot of time until September. Lots more flier updates to be done, I’m sure. And that stupid office and corporate. How do they have the nerve to demand everyone pay rent online (and pay for the service) without even checking to see if it’s legal to do so. Idiots! I’m glad you’re already getting into the Halloween excitement. You and Debra can be very happy!

  4. I'd have the Baker deposit my FEE into the Rent Cafe and solve two problems at once! Of course, there would be the problem of why you're asking for a fee but ...
I will not do Augtober or SeptGiving or OctoMas. To paraphrase Joan Crawford, "I will celebrate the holidays where the holidays OUGHT to be."

  5. I am getting more and more frustrated at the rushing of the holiday decorating.
I was planning on going grocery shopping today. Thank goodness I remembered on Wednesday night that it was almost Friday and the first of the month. I went late on Wednesday and got it over with.

    1. LOL, you and Bob and probably many others are frustrated at such an early start. Me? I'm anxious to see more decorations to play with in the stores.
