Crafts this morning was a drag. The Usual Suspects were all either really sick, not feeling well or injured from falls in their units -- one with a broken clavicle.
Despite the nearly empty session, a bit of tea was served. The most surprising of which was learning Meat Man, formerly Handsome Man, moved out.
He had hinted at doing so, when we last spoke at an event, saying he was done with the rent increases, but I scoffed that he’d not find anything better, financially speaking.
Lo and Behold, he whisked himself away. Scuddle butt is his mom passed away, he moved into her house in the hills overlooking the University; but I won’t know that for sure unless I happen to run into him, or the resident that goes to same church as he, verify details for myself.
I also learned why this time, during the pre-inspection, management opened closet doors to inspect what was inside.
They somehow caught wind of and were looking for items residents hide … like portable mini washing machines residents are not allowed to have.
I’d never heard of mini washing machines until Scary Mary over at Dark Thoughts, said she had one and management told her she’d have to get rid of it. Had I known there was such a thing, for sure I’d have been caught with one hidden in the closet, LOL.
Who knows … now that I know of this time-saving device, I might get one and hide in the car during inspections.
I don’t know if management found any washing machines, but I do know that, when they opened the closet door of the downstairs neighbor around the corner of my building, two little dogs popped out.
That neighbor was hiding two dogs she’d not registered with the office.
I was also surprised to learn Di is in trouble again.
Some of us residents, when they have usable items, will place those items on the table in the Community Room where we usually place canned food, boxed food, appliances, clear containers et al for the taking.
Word is that pre-inspection of Di’s unit found many of those free items in her unit … too many.
Evidently, she doesn’t even use or need what she’s been taking, but takes nonetheless because it’s there for the taking.
After having gotten in trouble over hoarding in the past, made to clear up or clear out, Di is back to hoarding to a degree that management is once again on her case about clearing out her unit and have also banned her from the Community Room, planning to once again lock up our refrigerator, because Di has been, on camera, caught grocery shopping in the Community fridge – taking bottled water Kesha has stored in the fridge for her Tuesday appearances and other items.
So, I guess I won’t be seeing Di again, unless and until it’s when we happen to run into each other on a walkway.
The discussion of Medical Plans came up and, when asked if I had one, I answered "Yes and No" because, though I have been a member of the highly touted "integrated managed care consortium that combines health insurance coverage and medical services into a single coordinated system", since I was in my 20’s, and it was great until doctors were limited on how much time they could spend on patients and Care Teams came into being, mucking it all up to where I can’t get service in a timely manner, it's "Yes and No" because I now opt instead to walk down the street to a neighborhood clinic.
I am so frustrated with the integrated medical care consortium that every time I see their ad run on social media, and it runs a lot, I curse at it, call them "lying liars", but don’t change because I figure I’m old, can’t last much longer, so why bother when medical care is broken all over.
Crafty Lady said that when Kesha brought a group in that promised one-stop shopping at a lesser fee on prescriptions they would bill to insurance providers, she signed up.
All of a sudden, she’s getting monthly notifications of $189 being billed to her insurance for prescriptions she’s never ordered and is getting the runaround on getting it cleared up.
Seems the group that Kesha brought in was a total scam. No telling how many seniors they are currently taking advantage of that might not even understand they’re being scammed.
Crafty Lady has informed Kesha and her insurance of the fraud, as she also continuously tries to contact that one-stop group she signed up with.
Good luck finding anyone who cares. My thinking is the only way to stop it is for her insurer to kick back, refuse to pay the bill and, if they do, it will free Crafty Lady from the scam, but what about the many other seniors, at this and at other senior facilities, that fell into the trap.
My final word on medical care was, "Well even though I hate and complain about the integrated managed care consortium being of no help to me, at least they’re not stealing from me".
So, though Crafty Lady didn’t have a plan this morning and there was only she and our 89-year-old to nuke out a project, while Dream Lover and I watched, our 89-year-old pieced scraps together into a card, while Crafty Lady made a snowflake out of paper bags.
Yesterday was Kesha Tuesday. I’m told she never showed up, so Crafty Lady and our 89-year-old spent the time decorating a few tiles.

Hoarding isn't just a bad habit that will clear up by itself. It's a mental illness that requires treatment to overcome. So no surprise that your unfortunate tenant is back to her compulsive hoarding.
ReplyDeleteHey, I made that same paper bag snowflakes craft last December, using brown paper bags I had kicking around in my cupboards. If I do it again, I'll use smaller white paper bags --

Nice work on the snowflakes. I wonder how it would look done in black paper bags? I may have to try it to find out.
DeleteIf you find black bags to use I can see you making something scary! Perhaps garnished with drops of blood. JanF
DeleteJanF ... you know me too well.
DeleteThe only mini portable washing machines I've seen are hand-cranked for use "off the grid" and don't hold more than a couple of gallons of water, so why has Mgmt banned them? And Kesha's got some explaining to do too, maybe to the police!
ReplyDeleteI don't know why management is banning. I wasn't even aware anyone here had one until I saw the notice from management they were not allowed. Something must have happened to bring to their attention. That's an interesting thought about Kesha and the police. She evidently is not doing due diligence in who she brings in here to present to the seniors or maybe kickback. I wasn't at that presentation but know enough to not trust anyone who says they can do anything cheaper cause it generally ends up with costing .... in one way or another.
DeleteOh no! Locking the fridge again…
ReplyDeleteThat's what I said, lol. Things are going to get difficult for our event organizers again if management follows through and locks the fridge.
DeleteThey're gonna have to keep everything locked up because Di will continue to come for it.
ReplyDeleteAnd how much do I loathe scammers, especially those who take advantage of the elderly. There's a special place in Hell for those folks and I will be happy to drive the bus that takes them there!
Poor Di, but Crafty Lady is probably happy she'll never have to see Di in the room again. I'm now wondering about all the information those scammers got out of the seniors when they signed up with them ... like social security numbers, et al., and what they'll do with that info.
DeleteYou are so RIGHT ON about the insurance scam. Don't fall for it. Keep what has been serving you, maybe not as well as you might like, but still, as you said, not stealing from you! Fresno Unified School District is in a heated battle right now with the retired teachers (that would be me) about putting us into a managed plan with Aetna. I have NO complaints. They have worked well with Stanford and paid all of Terry's ginormous bills. Cutting edge medicine is very pricey. I have not complaints with Aetna, oh but some of the other retired teachers who live in obscure places have had issues. I think they are in places where medical care is limited, for one, and for another, have doctors that aren't using AI to write their reports. We see the reports from Stanford, and boy, are they brilliant. Fortunately, Terry's cardiology unit is also a bunch of smart people who are using the most current and up to date reporting methods. So, I'm sticking with what we have.
ReplyDeleteWell, I hope the teachers who are not happy don't end up opting out altogether and jump into the same integrated managed care consortium plan that I have. They'll be sorry.
DeleteWhoa - for not a lot of participants, that is a lot of tea!
ReplyDeleteWe have medicare and a supplement from my husband's previous union. My friends are always after me to switch to an advantage plan or some other plan that is much cheaper and going to save me all kinds of money and has all kinds of extras. What we have mostly pays the bills and I can afford it. I don't trust changes.
LOL. It was a full cup. You're smart to not trust changes. Neither do I when I get text saying if I switch to this that the other phone plan or TV/Internet plan I can save money. Having done so in a time long ago, with the TV, I ended up paying more. So, no matter how they frame it to look like they're doing something for me, I know it's a clever trick.
DeleteWow, hoarding, secret dogs, mini washing machines and someone moved out. Lots of tea this time. Next time we have an inspection, I'm putting the mini washing machine in the corner of my bedroom with some clothes on top of it. lol
ReplyDeleteWay to go, lol. They'll never find it.
DeleteWell, lots going on to spill the Tea about, dogs tumbling out of Closets, an episode of Hoarders... never a dull moment! *Smiles* You should have hired a Male Stripper to jump out of yours Shirley and watch their faces!!! *Winks* As for Medical Scams and Scamming Seniors, the AG's Office usually handle's such things so perhaps the Tenant that got Scammed should report that Company to your Local Attorney General's Office. I liked the Tiger Card, did an 89 Year Old Create that piecing scraps together? I'm impressed.
ReplyDeleteI see blogger is letting you comment again. Always something. I'll pass that AG/Local AG on and yes, she put it together from bits and pieces. We're supposed to do tutu's this Wednesday because Crafty Lady wants to get rid of a lot of tulle she has hanging around. I don't think the ladies even know what a tutu is. I've made plenty for when I was doing 5Ks in costumes and will probably do one to dress my Halloween skeleton up as a ballet dancer. I imagine the 89-year-old, with her artistic self, will probably come up with something else to make out of tulle.
