Shortly after noon today, there was another knock knock knock on the door.
It can't be little Knock Knock, because she’d gone home with her parents, thought I; and assumed correctly it had to be my White-Haired Neighbor, once again catching me wrapped in my sarong, because I had no intentions to seize the day.
She said maintenance was currently in her unit. That she’d approached one of the maintenance guys when she saw him outside, he had grabbed his equipment, come up to her unit, was currently addressing the condensation pipe over the tub, clearing the pipe of dust and grime so her tub would not get the rust stains I’d spoken of.
Interesting …… inasmuch as we are warned not to approach the guys when they are out and about, that we absolutely must put in a workorder.
She said that, since he was here, did I want him to clear my pipe as well.
I said sure, quickly dressed in day wear.
Then, she knocked again, had a what the hell look on her face, said she doesn’t understand it but maintenance had said no, they could not clear my pipe, that I’d have to put in a work order.
"That doesn’t surprise me", said I.
"But they are here now, and you’re right next door", said she.
"Yes. I know it doesn't make sense, that it’s petty", said I, "But not making sense is how things work around here".
"Since he’s here, why don’t you call the manager now and request it?".
"I’ve lived here 14 years, have been through the ringer with management and maintenance. The maintenance guys we have now are good, they know me, like me, and I have no problem with them. But the way things work around here are strange. I’ve accepted that, but have learned how to protect my peace from the strangeness. So, for now, I’m accustomed to cleaning the rust, won’t be calling the manager or putting in a workorder. I’m at the stage where if they don’t care, I don’t care."
She said, "I understand because I had problems with the manager over where I lived for 34 years. He had a problem with cats, had trapped two cats for three days, so I reported him to the ASPCA. After that he kept finding issues with me, tried to get me evicted. So, I understand."
She walked away with a look on her face that read she was stunned/couldn’t believe that, since maintenance was here, the equipment was here, why he couldn’t do my unit; and I hope she told him what I'd said, that "If they don't care, I don't care".
Wait until she finds out she’ll have to pay for overhead lighting, garbage disposals, and whatever else maintenance issues management decides to bill residents for.
Plus, because she didn’t put in a workorder, but got one of the guys to come to her unit, handle the A/C condenser pipe, the entire complex will probably get notices to our doors to "Not bother the Maintenance Workers when they are out and about".
Other than that, it’s all peaches and crème around here. We even, at long last, have a management-sponsored event coming up — "Resident’s End of Summer Event, join us by the pool for food, games and prizes, 11am – 3pm, Tuesday, August 25, wear your best tropical attire".
In other news, I received bad news from the seller of the Boot Urn. Emailing my height and weight, asking if ashes would fit, he or she replied, the boot holds "130 cubic inches which is approx 130lbs precremation".
I am considerably over 130 pounds, so bummer with my plan to go in style.
You could buy a PAIR of cowboy boots and put half your ashes in each one.
ReplyDeleteThat's not a bad idea. Twin 2 could have one boot, granddaughter could have the other.
DeleteShirley, you just need to order another boot. You, dear woman, are a two-boot- kickin' mama.
ReplyDeleteThe suggestion of two boots is growing on me.
DeleteOh dear, of course you would most likely be down to 130 by the time, years from now when you depart this earth. Most people get smaller as they age. I
ReplyDeletewas wondering what you want the family to do with the filled boot? I think you might consider becoming a spooky garden /patio ornament . JanF
I would LOVE to be a spooky ornament.
DeleteSo, if a pipe bursts in the apartment and maintenance is walking by you can't bother them?
ReplyDeleteI understand you don't want them bothered for minor things but, c'mon, they're right there!!
I hate people. I say that because I am not feeling well but had to leave the house to run errands and so I dealt with "people" and it was excruciating!!!
🤣🤣 I don't mean to laugh at your excruciating pain Bob; in fact, I pretty much feel the same, don't venture out often and still become aware of reasons to repeat to myself, "What IS wrong with people?"
DeleteOoh, an End-of-Summer Event? Time to break out your grass skirt and coconut shell bra, Shirley!
ReplyDelete🤣 My first thought was the grass skirt I made a few years ago. It's packed away somewhere in storage, but I'm not sure I still have the guts to wear it.
DeleteOh do wear it, maybe over a pair of neutral leggings and the coconut shells could be glued/attached onto the outside of a tee shirt. That would be utterly discreet and fun! JanF
DeleteIf this was an event us residents were hosting for ourselves, I might be more inclined to go to the trouble of digging the grass skirt out of storage. I don't expect this, being a management hosted event, to be worth the trouble.
DeleteToo bad it won't fit-Christine cmlk79.blospot.com
ReplyDeleteI'm going to go with two boots. Split the ashes between Twin 2 and granddaughter.
DeleteMan, I am disappointed in the boot. 130 is almost a child - not a grown woman. Manufacturers. Phooey.
ReplyDeleteYour apartment management boggles the mind.
That's what I was thinking ... that not many women could fit. Management does bottle the mind and, after the garbage disposal incident, I want nothing more to do with them, make no maintenance requests unless I absolutely have to because I don't care for my mind being boggled. BTW, I tried pickling cucumbers. Didn't like it. Too bitter. Had to add a little sugar to the jar. And that brine, LOL, I was walking around trying to figure out where that awful smell was coming from, realized it was the vinegary brine cooking on the stove.
DeleteYa gonna need two boots. As a retired hospice nurse, I can report that, yep, you might lose weight during a slow exit from this world, but nope, your ample beauty won't shrink too much. Why not your favorite pair of real boots? Ya gonna be in a baggie anyway. Maybe the dudes fixing WHN's pipe will have fixed your's. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteTwo boots it's going to be.
DeleteIt's still crazy to me that they want to charge you to fix things. That should be included.
ReplyDeleteIt's illegal and, one day, they're gonna be caught and get in a lot of trouble.
DeleteI am late to the party, but came by to agree with everyone else about two boots.

DeleteYes, Management Men Memo will definitely be coming. Btw, we get a very nice glossy magazine newsletter every month. This month's newsletter was accompanied by an email that the newsletter was now available in digital form and supplied the address. It did not say the hardcopy would be discontinued. I'm guessing they will continue with the hard company another month or two and then we'll receive notice the hardcopy has been cancelled.
ReplyDeleteDistribution of our monthly activity calendar has gone through first being attached to or doors, then supposedly, once we were pushed into signing up for Rent Cafe, it was supposed to be emailed to us via that portal. That only happened twice in the year I've used Rent Cafe. Now there's a box in the main building where printed copies of the monthly activity calendar are placed. So, if you don't come down and grab one before the few that are printed are gone, you're SOL. I'm guessing you're correct in figuring how the game is played, LOL.
