While the majority are planning for tomorrow’s feast, having finished conceptualizing covers for Twin 1’s bathroom accessory, my plan for tomorrow is to shampoo the carpets.
Can’t say that I’m happy with the second stab I made at making a cover, but soooooo over the project, I kinda hastily stitched up a teepee like cover, with an open flap that can be closed, just to be done with it.
It’s a lot more functional than the tube cover, but I don’t like it, am not proud of the finished product. However, so totally over this project, I just no longer care. Don’t even understand the need for a cover.
Talking to Twin 1 on the phone last night, where she said she'd just finished handing out 200 turkeys donated to her organization, I explained my reservations that Cover 1 would drive her nuts with the necessity to lift off/place back on, might not fit, and that Cover 2 was not to my liking.
She said she’d searched Etsy (online craft central for anything and everything), couldn’t find a cover, turned to me.
I appreciate that she had faith in my abilities to come up with something, but told her there’s a reason she couldn’t find a cover on Etsy. Reason being people don’t usually cover their standing holders.
After having read Tundra Bunny’s comment about his "metal giraffe", I looked that accessory up, saw how cute it is, how it would suit Twin 1’s Afrocentric ascetics, so I suggested she just replace what she has with a giraffe for TP and another for Paper Towels.
So, we’ll see how it goes — if she tests out my creations or purchases anew; but, however it goes, I’m done, over and out.
Through the patio window yesterday, I caught a glimpse of little Knock Knock on the walkway.
Is school out?
She’s older, more reserved, so I don’t expect she’ll be constantly knocking on my door; but, if she catches me outside, she will run up/give me a hug.
Next Door Neighbor knocked on the door yesterday to see if I was still alive, since she’d not heard or seen me coming/going for a while.
Things are all up in the air with her looking to move to a downstairs unit, due to a planned surgery that would have rendered her incapable of climbing stairs; and last we spoke, both the move and the surgery were on hold due to a new even worse medical diagnosis.
Inviting her in to view the finished 4 Years 4 Months 3,391 Hours artwork, she oohed aahed then asked if I’d had offers to buy it.
After saying I had no intention of working that hard for that long just to sell it, and further that family would be upset if I sold, that I expected they’d fight over it after I’m gone, I began thinking how weird that her mind somehow always thinks dollars/cents, the monetary value of things.
My mind went back to the time she was in my unit for something or other, how her eyes had roamed that time as well; she looked at various figurines, said "That’s probably worth money".
Who thinks that way?
As I was pondering that thought, her eyes began to take the room in. She asked about the cover on the yoga mat.
It was covered. How did she know there was a yoga mat under it?
Then it was, "Is that a sewing machine?"
It too was covered.
Then, "Is that a carpet shampooer?"
Damn lady.
She'd better not ask to borrow it.
Just before she moved to leave, it was "What’s that on the floor?"
It was my walking pad.
Inspecting and observing more than even the State Inspector did, I’m surprised she didn’t check the bathroom and the bedroom.
Weird, just weird.

You just opened up your shop to customers! Some folks have made and traded so much in their lives, they look at stuff with potential garage sale values. I like the giraffees. I have cheap TP. Why is your daughter wanting to hide it? We all poop.
ReplyDeleteStolen Land Day is right. The middle of Kansas had a lot of various tribes here before the forced march from Florida and into Indian Territory. Many of the civic and music halls here in the K.C. metro (Kansa Indians) place a notice at the bottom of their programs at least acknowledging the error and that the building sits on previous Native American lands. At least it makes the current folks think a little. Hawaii was also stolen by the U.S. Government from their Queen. Interesting history. See PBS' Hawaii's Last Queen for the straight scoop. Linda in Kansas, with appropriate levels of guilt.
I'm not sure why she wants to hide it. If she doesn't like the one she has, buy one she doesn't mind putting out for all to see. A notice/notices acknowledging built on stolen land is an amazing thing to admit. Don't let two-dolls donnie know about this or he'll have the notices removed, have everything renamed after him.
DeleteMost of the public events we have here ( {Pacific Northwest) also note the original ownership of the land. I like it. JanF
DeleteShe does sound weird!
ReplyDeleteShe didn't seem to know how rude and weird it was to be taking inventory. I wonder if she does this when she visits others.
DeleteOh, those giraffes are MUCH cuter to hold TP and PT!
ReplyDeleteWord! I hope she buys them.
DeleteUsually the Lad to my paper towel holder.
ReplyDeleteHappy Stolen Land Day!
🤣🤣🤣The Lad is like your very own multi use swiss army knife.
DeleteHow creepy! Let me assess everything you own and determine your net worth.
ReplyDeletePretty much, and here she is with the best most opulently decorated unit in the complex.
DeleteYou did an amazing job on those two covers! I have a relative like your neighbor. When she comes in the house her head is on a swivel while she’s looking over everything. Even commented on items she spotted in my recycle bin! Would you mind telling what walking pad you have? I need to get one. Thanks!
ReplyDelete(Stolen lands day for sure)
The manual describes it as WPS1F Walking/Jogging Pad $399. I chose this one because described as quiet and lightweight. It's quiet alright but heavy to me. After purchasing, saw in the manual does not work on carpet or outdoors on patio. Kinda threw me for a loop because my place is all carpet, but I discovered a 6-piece walking pad mat ($15) that lifts off the ground. I'm happy with the purchase but, if I had to do all over, would spring for a model with a handle or, even better, a standing desk.
DeleteThanks, great info.
DeleteP.S. There's a weight limit. I didn't know that until after it was delivered and I was reading the manual. Fortunately, I was under the limit. Just be aware to check for weight limit when you buy.
DeleteI love the giraffes!!
ReplyDeleteI think I've sold Twin 1 on them; she loved as well.
DeleteI like the sheep toilet paper holders even better than the giraffe- please google to see them! If nothing else they will make you smile. JanF
ReplyDeleteThe sheep are hilarious, but not my or Twin 1's style.
DeleteThe giraffe is perfection. Never seen anything like it, nor do I need anything like it, but if I did, I would sure try to find one. It's very special.
ReplyDeleteAs for the noisy neighbor, you didn't say how old she is, but I'm thinking elderly, lonely, looking for conversation wherever she can find it. Asking questions is one way to do that. I have a neighbor from across the street--88 years old--lives by herself, still takes care of her house and yard, still drives, but every so often she comes over with a special "treat" she has made so I will invite her in, ask her to sit down, and she talks. She doesn't ask too many questions, and she lets me in on the conversation. I have learned that if I give her something, then she will return later with another treat. She never wants to be "outgiven." I just go with the flow.
I was tempted to buy one when I saw the photo online, but it would be wasted in my tiny bathroom. I'm not fancy. I stick rolls of TP behind bathroom door. Neighbor is 6 months younger than I, and she probably is lonely, but too too too boring, negative, a downer. I think her watching political news ALL DAY, wanting to talk about it, complaints about this that the other, chases people away. I admire people like you, the Baker, the Talker, who give themselves to others, but that's not me, so I find other detached ways to serve.
DeleteHappy Stolen Land Day to you too my Friend. My Mom never could understand why my Indigenous Dad ever Celebrated Thanksgiving. His take was that his People extended Hospitality to the Pilgrims and how the Newcomers received it was between them and their God... the Tribal folks had done the honorable thing by Sharing a Feast with the Strangers. Dad always had a very Sage Wisdom about taking the high road even if others choose the low road, it makes one a better person and doesn't lower you to the depths of the depravity of those on the low road who have no honor, no integrity and no conscience. You really extend a Labor of Love on your handmade Projects Shirley, so I think perhaps the Twin appreciates that. Nothing being bought Online would have the Love in the Creation of it I suspect. Are you gonna be able to see the Great-Grands during the Holidays? I Wish more of our extended Family lived closer so we could all get together during Holidays.
ReplyDeleteI would have loved to know your Dad. He had the right attitude. It's not looking good for heading to Long Beach to spend time with the Great Grands. I'm not been feeling as healthy as I've been letting on this last year, don't think I can handle the drive, the packing and managing what I can eat.
DeleteYeah, sometimes taking the Show on the Road has it's risks, it's why we don't Travel, The Man is too Medically Fragile now.
DeleteI heard on NPR yesterday, I think, that Native Americans call this a day of sorrow. I don't dwell on the history, just call it a grand Feasting Day. At any rate, I hope you have/had a great day.
ReplyDeleteI just saw something that said, "Teach a man to grow corn, he kills you and steals your land". I can completely understand why Native Americans call it a Day of Sorrow. It was a day of busting my arse, pulling out Christmas decorations from storage, untangling lights. I'll have to check your blog, see what you cooked.
DeleteI used to have a neighbor that said that about stuff in my apartment. Everything was "worth some money" lol. Some people just think that way I guess.
ReplyDeleteMaybe people who think that way is because they were antique dealers and collectors in their last life 😉
