Problem Solved

Insofar as I know, not a lot has been going on last few days. The heat is pretty much keeping everyone on lockdown, so not much to glimpse through the patio window and I’ve had no desire to check into the Community Room, catch up with the Usual Suspects since the BBQ.

Nor have I had the desire to pressure myself into getting out by 9 am for the Tahirobics class.

After eons of the daily grind …… up early, get myself and the twins together, drop them off at school, make it to work on time and then, after the twins were grown, on their own, myself still having to make it to a job on time until the day I was mercifully freed from the grind through retirement, I was beginning to feel resentful of having to pressure myself, in these Golden Years, into another early morning schedule — this time just to keep my body from deteriorating, stay somewhat fit.

There’s just has to be an easier way, thought I.

Researching nearby senior centers, I found no activities that made me want to drive to, engage with other people.

The gym in the strip mall next to Ralphs Market, adjacent to Starbucks, has always been a viable option. I’d looked into it years ago, before I found Trainer but, at that time, it was just opening, and it turned me off that memberships were aggressively being pushed before the gym had gotten its act together.

Now there’s a pool, exercise classes, tons of equipment.

The classes offered looked to be the same as that covered by Tahirobics — at $10 a pop as opposed to the cost of a gym membership, plus Tahirobics is medium impact, safer for my body than the high impact workouts the gym offered.

Inasmuch as the only equipment I was likely to take advantage of at the gym was the treadmill, it didn’t seem worth the expense of a membership, plus again there’s the issue of my currently not wanting to be around a lot of people, but the tour gave me an idea as to how I could safely walk and strength train, on my own time, in an atmosphere free of others.

Problem solved.

My own home gym station — air conditioned, open 24/7, a cross trainer for full body workout, a foldable portable treadmill, and there’s even a coffee bar.

So, if anyone is looking for me, you’ll find me snug as a bug in a rug, working out in my in-home bunker unless and until people no longer so easily get on my last nerve, and it's safe to once check in on Community Room activities, engage with the outside world.

In other news …… not my creations, but good on those who created.

  1. Good for you. Much more convenient and easy to get to when you have 5 minutes you want to stretch your hips/legs after a long cross-stitch session.

    1. You got that right about stretching the hips. I didn't realize they were beginning to tighten from just that short time away from Trainer's treadmill until I got on this portable treadmill. I'm better already.

But I think we're gonna need more ICE voodoo dolls! Just sayin'.

    1. This gym even has a shower, LOL. Ice voodoo doll would be a BIG seller around here.

  3. I've tried to exercise at home, but it doesn't work for me. I need the structure of a gym class to make me accountable.

    1. So far, it's looking like the right solution for me. I'm so happy to be walking again that I've been working out every day.

  4. Gadfrey, that workout on the treadmill had me panting. You're a much better conditioned octogenarian than this old boy! Keep up the good work!

    1. Judging by the beautiful photos you post, looks like you're doing a great job with your outdoor walks. Wish I could safely walk outdoors around here but it is what it is.

  6. Perfect! And no problem with wait times or hours or smelly boxers or loud obnoxious people .

  7. If you're a self starter your 'gym' will work perfect for you. I'd slack off after a month so is wouldn't work for me.

    Love the voodoo dolls.

    1. My body won't let me slack off or be idle. It has a mind of its own and nags me until I get up and get moving. So much detail in those dolls. Someone put in a lot of work.

  8. That's a pretty sweet home gym -- great hours, great price, great coffee! Enjoy!

  9. Nice idea! Love the voodoo dolls. I'm convinced the Jan. 6 criminals were released to make the current ICE Army for the Orange Idiot. Best reason for their wearing masks. It's sickening. Linda in Kansas

    1. It's much easier to do when I don't have to get up, dress up, and go somewhere else to do it.

  11. May I ask where you bought the equipment? It looks like something I would use. I think this is a lovely gym, coffee bar and all.

    1. I am embarrassed to say I broke rank and ordered the treadmill from Amazon, but a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do. The Cross Trainer came from Wayfair.

  12. Can you give a little more info about it? I end up walking the halls and stairs in my building in winter but this looks like a better alternative. I don't have a lot of room. Maybe post a link to it on here? Like you I must move every day!

    1. The one I purchased "made in China" is no longer available, but I see a much less expensive (on sale down from $129 to $99) "Under Desk Treadmill, Walking Pad for Home and Office". Just put that description into Amazon and it will pop up. Also, my unit is carpeted, and the one I bought doesn't work on carpet, needs a flat surface, so I purchased, for $16, "6 Pcs Walking Pad Mat". I'm assuming it's the same with this one that is on sale, that you'll need to lift it with the pads.

    2. P.S. Buyer Beware. Since I paid close to $500 for my walking pad and this one, and others now available, are going for such a low price, I'd take a good hard look at reviews to see if previous purchasers are happy with the equipment.
